Rex Putnam, state superintendent of public instruction, told the house education committee Monday in discufing the bill to raise school teachers' annual minimum from $1,200 to $2,400. Dr. Frank Parr, executive sec retary of the Oregon Education association, which has requested the bill, said to raise the mini mum to $2,400 in reality would not double salaries, because prac tically all districts have been pay ing above the $1,200 minimum. Parr 4id the total cost of the bill would be $1,235,000. GRANGE FAVORS TAX The Santa Clara grange in Lane county advised Hep. Earl Hill, C'ushman. Monday it favors a sales tax. Hill introduced the 3 per tent sales tax bill now before the legislature.
