Russell T. Daulton, as sistant Polk county agent, is as sisting with arrangements, and Gerald W. Mason of the public relations depaitment of the com pany will have charge of the meeting. More than 6000 acres of hairy vetch were dusted with DDT last year on more or les an experi mental basis, report W. C. Leth, Polk county agent, in getting ready for the coming season. Four airplanes were ued, and it now appears, says Leth, that the acre age to be dusted by planes by members of the Polk county dust ing cooperative will be much larger this year. It is likely that a five per cent DDT dust will be used in 1947, in place of the three per cent dust ued last year, as the stronger has some value in destroying aphis cn vetch a will as weevil. Hairy vetch from dusted fields has a much higher germination than from undusted fields, and saleable seed is produced, where as undusted areas frequently do not produce seed with sufficiently high germination to sell. A germination of 70 per cent is usually required by seed buyers. A Polk county meeting is be ing planned for early March to discuss this year's dusting pro gram.
