Anderson Asks Smaller 1947 Potato Crop ' WASHINGTON. Jan. Still troubled with surplus pota toes from last year's record crop. Secretary of Agriculture Ander son said tonight 1947 production goals will be cut much more sharply than previously an nounced. 1 The original 1947 goals called for 100.000,000 fewer bushels of potatoes than last year. This was to avoid repetition of an $80,000, 000 loss the government sustained in buying surpluses to support grower prices. Fourteen states were allotted smaller acreages than they planted last year, but 34 states got more. Officials said, however, the in creases were allowed states with low per-acre fields.
