Demand High For Grains CHICAGO, Jan. 14-yP)-Gi ain was in demand in the futures market today and a season's high was established by the January wheat contract at $2.19 a bushel. Demand for grains developed largely from the department of agriculture announcement of Feb ruary allocations for export. The department said 15,836,000 bush els of wheat, 14,600,000 bushels of flour in wheat equivalent, and about 13.000,000 bushels of corn will be needed to fill commit ments. January wheat moved to the new high on buying by milling and eastern interests and at the close wheat was 1 to 2 cents higher than the previous finish. January $2.19. Corn was 1 to 1 higher, January $1.32. oats were to 1 higher, March 77-. and barley was Vi higher, March $1.23. though many market leaders re mained in losing territory. The ticker tape loafed after a fairly active opening. Steels, mo tors, rails and a number of in dustrials edged up fractions to a point or more. Extreme gains were reduced in most cases at the close. Transfers of 850,000 shares com pared with 1,590,000 on Monday's sharpest slide since early Novem ber. The Associated Press 60 -stock composite was up .2 of a point at 64.1 after three successive dips totalling 2.6 points. Of 921 issues registering, against 1,060 the day before, 421 rose and 282 fell.
