Silverton Hugh Latham of San Diego, former University of Oregon football star, came Tues day to spend Christmas with his parent?. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lath am and will return by plane Thursday or Friday. Also spend ing the holidays at the Latham home is their granddaughter, Pat ty Latham, sophomore at Oregon State college, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marc Latham of Santa Barbara, and Mr. and Mrs. Foster Cone (Louise Latham) and their son, Latham, who is on furlough. Swegle Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Kennedy drove to Chehallis, Wash, for his brother. Alvin's wedding, Sunday, December 22 and Norma. Calvin Roy and Wanda joined them for the holiday dinner with relatives Christmas day. Silverton City employes held the annual Christmas party Mon day night at tlose of office hours. Music was presented by a sextet of high school girls directed by Robert McKay, music teacher. In stead of a gift exchange, the club collected cash to use for welfare purposes. Hostesses were Clara Trotter and Mrs. Clares Powell. Valley Obituaries Martin Kuiken LYONS Funeral services were held Thursday for Martin Kui ken, 43, who died Monday morn ing at his home on McCully moun tian. Survivors are the widow, Elva Kuiken; son Donakl, daugh ters, Joy Irene, Carroll Ann and Cathleen; sisters, Allie Stewart of Niagara, Anne Cochran, Mrs. Minnie Manning of Salem, Sarah Mouser of Stayton, Katie Skill ings of Gooch. Abbie-Holtrof of Lyons. Effie Tombs of McCully Mountain;-brothers, Wiebe of Leb anon, Ray of Beaverton, Alex of Lyons, William and John of Mc Cully Mountain. Interment was -held at the Fox Valley cemetery. Pallbearers were Forrest Nydig ger, Henry Croisant, George Ny- ligger, Henry Holzfuss. Vern Ny- digger, and Vern Nydigger. Barley Teal FALLS CITY FuneraJ serv ices were held at the Methodist church Tuesday for Harley Teal, who was killed in the woods Fri day by a limb striking him. V. T. Alexander SILVERTON. Dec. 24 Fun eral services for V. T. Alexander, 76, who died in a Salem hospital, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, ' from Ekman's Memorial chapel. Burial in Valley View cemete? and the Rev. Arthur BateswiiT be in charge. The only known sur vivor is a niece, Ruth Alexander at St. Petersburg, Fla. Monmouth Men Home After Duty in Navy j MONMOUTH John Agard. jr son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Agard. returned recently after 40 ' months in the navy, most recent ly in the Pacific area. Maurice Gentle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Gentle, is at home with his parents after nearly four years in the navy. Much of that time was spent in government hospitals at Denver and Corona, Calif., after he became ill from tuberculosis. He held the rank of Charles Walter Schmiedeeke SILVERTON, Dec. 24 Charles Walter Schmiedeeke. 33, died this morning as the result of an acci dent just west of Pudding River bridge. He was driving to Salem alone when it happened. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Ekman's Memor ial chapel, burial in Belcrest. The Rev. M. J. K. Fuhr will be in charge. Survivors are the widow El len, three children, Donna Lee, 6: Janet Louise 3; and John Carl 2; his mother, Emilie Chamberlain, Salem; his father. Carl Schmie deeke, in Nebraska. The accident happened between 12:30 and 1 p.m. this morning. Students Home For Holidays At Falls City FALLS CITV Shopping in Dallas Friday were Mrs. Evelyn Scott, Mrs. Ed win York, Mrs. Jack Ogden and Mrs. John Gilbert. Katherine Richardson, student at the University of Oregon is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward K. Richardson. Mrs. Alma Frur and Mrs. Elsie Graham shopped in Salem Fri day. I Mrs. Hazel Peterson and Mrs. Mildred Wray left Monday for Oceanlake to spend Christmas with their brother A.-G. Mont gomery and family. The Rebekahs and Odd Fellows had the annual Christmas party for their children at the IOOF hall Friday. Supper was served and the time spent playing games and cards. A joint no host birthday party was given at Mrs. Leslie Grip pens Friday for Mrs. Anne Grip pen and Violet Mack. Mrs. Jo Nairn underwent major operation at the Bartell hospital in Dallas Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Adams are the parents of a baby girl, born at the Bartell hospital. Harvey Freeman received word from Nebraska that ' his mother died, and left Sunday to attend her funeral. Word was received by Mrs. Bruden that her son Ellis was in jured in a logging accident, his collar bone was broken in two places and he received head in juries.
