Bowden, 47, that his wife was i blown to bits when she opened a trunk in which he had fashioned a bomb today speeded his trial on first degree murder. Defence Attorney Edwin D. Hicks and Bowden both told the court they agreed the explosion killed Mrs. Fern Bowden, 44. The statements came after Hicks had unsuccessfully opposed detailed testimony and use of pictures to show the extent of the explosi-m of six sticks of dynamite. The defense attorney told the jury Bowden had warned his fam ily not to touch the trunk in which he stored the bomb. Hicks said the accused man built the bomb, intending to take the life of a man who had been forcing his atten tions on Mrs. Bowden. He argued Bowden was driven to desperation by the breaking up of his family life.
