Inspection awards were won by
troop 61 and by explorer post 60
of Woodburn; 'advancement by
troop 52, Silverton. Awards for
the most new members and for
attendance went to troop 61.
Presiding was John Jordan of
Silverton. Inspection was con
ducted by Commissioner M. B.
Ford of Silverton. The opening
ceremony was conducted by ex-
Elorer post 60 led by Perry Wil
ams, and demonstrations were
given by troops 54 and 61 and
by explorer post 60.
Harvest Festival
In Turner School
To Provide Funds
TURNER A Harvest festival
will be held Friday at 8 p. m.
In the school auditorium for the
purpose of raising money for
additional athletic equipment. En
tertainment will consist of music
by the grade school pupils and a
girls' chorus and octet from the
high school, directed by Lillian
Zinn, Inez Cannoy, Dorothy Bar
low and Leota Sloan. Featured
will be a comedy movie, "Mr.
Boggs Steps Out."
A contest in the grade school
for most tickets sold is under way.
Sponsors are Sara Speck and
Martha Angus.

telephoned his parents, the Alvin
Legards, from Seattle Monday
after he had docked from Japan
where he has been for several
months. He will be discharged in

years' duty.

the parents of a six-pound, four
ounce son, Harry Claude, ". born
Wednesday at the Salem Deacon

are Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Porter of

Claud Girtman of Arbuckle, Calif.

Mill City Residents awoke
Tuesday to find a skiff of snow
covering the ground and the sur
rounding mountains snow clad.
It was quite a surprise after the
rain storm of Saturday and Sun
day and the terrific wind. The
Santiam river was rising Monday
and logging operations were
halted Monday because of the
wind.
Macleay Mrs. Albert Sohli en
tertained members of the Macleay
Woman's club Thursday. It was
an all-day affair with about 20
present. Next meeting will be
with Mrs. John Gluchow.
Roberts Funds for the school
library will be raised by means
of an open house to be sponsored
by the Mothers' club of Roberts
at 8 p. m. Friday.

ton hospital, November 17,' a
daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Dehl of Salem.
Fear Corners- A furniture re-

street. The; owners are Lawrence
Lee, formerly of Klamath Falls,
and Morns Lee, recently from
Los Angeles. Both are married
and have moved here with their
families. Lawrence Lee was with
the railroad daring the war and
his brother ha recently been dis
charged from the army.
Dallas David Warren, street
commissioner, has returned from
the east with a new street flusher,
the city council was notified this
week. The council voted to as
sume . responsibility for lateral

Thanksgiving social Friday night
in the church social rooms. Mrs.

WOODBURN, Nov. 20 Final
rites will be held at Ringo's at
1:30 p. m. Thursday for Emma
Jane Haverly, 79, native of Boone
county, Iowa, and Woodburn res
ident since 1892, who died in a
Portland hospital Monday. Inter
ment at Belle Passi.
Mrs. Haverly, member of the
Seventh Day Adventist church, i
survived by her widower, A. B.
Haverly of Woodburn; a son,
Oran, of Coos Bay; two daughters,
Letty Walker' of Portland and
Mildred Hanley of Woodland,
Wash.; two brothers, A. F. Cope
land of Seattle and T. L. Cope
land of Elsinora, Calif.; four
grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.;
LULU WISHON
MILL CITY Funeral services
were held' Sunday at the Presby
terian church for Mrs. Lulu
Wishon, 60, who died Thursday at
Sweet Home hospital. ,
Born June 3, 1886, in Glade.
Ark., she came to Mill City in
1934. She was married to Wallace
Wishon in 1903. Mrs. Wishon was
a member of the Church of God.
She had been in ill health the past
year and bedfast the past three
months.
Survivors are four daughters.

Interim Board Talks
Of Legislative Speed-up
PORTLAND. Nov. 19. OP) -Plans
to speed up the state legis
lature session opening January 13
will be discussed Friday in Sa
lem by the governor's legislative
interim committee.
Chairman H. C. Belton, who
also is senate president, said rule
changes and revision of commit
tee work would be discussed. Any
recommendations will go before
the pre-session caucus of house
and senate later.
