I" ARAIIDArS LET US HAVE THE FACTS l NO WHEAT it being used by tha American brewing industry. Even in 1945, only 8'tOO of l per cent of our wheat crop w'ent into beer making. Barley, the principal grain used in brewing, is not in any considerable quan tity processed for human consumption. FORTY PER CENT of the grain used by brew era is returned as cattle feed greatly enriched over and above the original nutritional value due to the enzymes and diastase developed in the malting and mashing processes. A RETURN TO MOONSHINING and home brewing would cost us more grain than legal ized production and control because the valu able residues of stock feed now so widely distributed would be lost and vajth it. nearly three billion dollars annually goingto govern ment in excise taxes and licenses would re vert to the bootlegger and gangster.
