(Jesten-Miller) Campus Events Are Many An organization was formed this week on the Willamette university campus of the wives of married members of Alpha . Psi Delta fraternity. At its first meeting, to which husbands were invited, the club elected officers for the ensuing school semester. Mrs. Sumner Gallaher was elected president and Mrs. Warren James was chosen as secretary-treasurer. Meetings will be held once ev ery three weeks. First of its kind on the campus, the organ ization is expected to attract old as well as new Alpha Psis in the vicinity of Willamette. Members of Kappa Gamma Rho fraternity and Delta Gam ma, sorority held an exchange dessert on" Wednesday. Ten Kappa men took an equal num ber of Delta Gammas to Mc Millan's coffee shop for dessert, while the Delta Gamma house in exchange served dessert to ten of the Kappas. Chairmen in charge of arrangements for the affair was Howard B landing, assisted by Bob Gletcher and Clarence Edwards. Friday night Delta Gamma sorority on the Willamette cam pus honored the pledges, mem bers of Alpha Psi Delta frater nity, at a waffle supper. Wives of members of Alpha Psi were special guests. Waffles were seryedL at ,7:30, followed by dancing and entertainment. Pledge Officers Elected The pledges of Pi Bet-Phi sorority of Willamette univer sity elected- Muriel Oliver of Yakima, Washington, president of the group for the coming year, it was revealed this week. Other officers elected were: Vice president, Betsy Lyon, Cen tral i a, Washington; secretary, Phyllis Freres," Stay ton; treas urer, Winona Dillard, Toledo; censor, Mary Beth Snow, Sher man Oaks. California; social chairman, Carol BcrgKlrom, Mc Minnville, and scholarship chair man, Luella Nichols. Salem. New Pledges Named " ' A list of new pledges has been announced by three of the so rority houses on the Willamette university campus, at the end of the second week of open rushing. Wearing the scarlet and olive green ribbons of Alpha Chi Omega are Jean Evans, Inde pendence; Marjory Stockman. Grants Pass; Margaret Austin, Coos Bay, and Virginia Barton, Mossyrock, Washington. Delta Gamma chose Jane Os born, Seattle; Vinita Howard and Grace Schields, Salem, and Doris Bartholomy, Portland. The cardinal and straw rib bons of Chi Omega have been pinned on Mildred Norton, Tig ard; Joan Thomas, Port Orford, and Pat Dickey, Portland. Date of formal pledge serv ices will be set individually by each house. Salem chapter. Order of East ern Star, will hold its regular meeting tonight at the Masonic Temple at 8 o'clock. This will be the first meeting of the new chapter since it was instituted, and the by-laws and conslitu tion will be drafted. 03: Salem Randies Will Be Party Hosts .. Mr. and Mrs. Sam A. Randle will be hosts for an informal "welcome home party tonight at their home on East Washing ton street for members of ..the machine unit, their wives land husbands, of the state unem ployment compensation com- ) mission. The honor guests will be Rholin LaDuke. Carl Beach and Robert Puman, who are - home from the service and have returned to their positions at the commission. The evening hours will ' be spent informally and later in the evening the hosts will serve a chow mein ;? dinner. 1 Forty guests will attend the affair. Bouquets of mixed spring flowers were used about the rooms. Mrs. B. O. Schucking gave a talk on flow ers and plants. Mrs. Brunk re ported on the garden show at Portland. Mrs. Mabel Moor house gave a reading on "April" and Mrs. Roy Fawk a reading on "Gardening Today." Those attending were Mes dames E. L llerrell, Frank Farmer, R. W. Hogg. Herman Kortemeyer, Mattie Carr, Oliver Wait. Nellie White. Roy Fawk, Nellie Ferguson. Frank Pic ha, Madge Mayhood, Mabel Moor house, Dors"Pugh, Doris Allen, William Allen, B. O. Schucking and Clara Brunk. The Oak Grove Gardeners flower show and silver tea will be held on May 14 at the Oak Grove Grange hall. Mrs. Hyatt Will Head Club ALBANY Mrs. J. E. Hyatt will head the Albany Woman's club as president for the year, having been elected at the meeting Tuesday afternoon. Other officers elected are Mrs. Orion Garrett, vice - president; Mrs. James Heldman, recording secretary, Mrs. H. C. Johnson, corresponding secretary; Mrs. A. P. Howells. treasurer; and Mrs. Fred Hensolt. Mrs. Max Kelly and Mrs. W. W. Stuart, di rectors. Mrs. Kelly has held the office of president the past year. Installation will take place May 14. at which time a lunch eon will be held at Riverside community hall, when it is hoped that Kirs. George Moore head. Portland, was guest speaker, taking as her subject "Atomic Age." and Mrs Ruth Cotter, Linn county wel fare officer, gave a short talk on tha work being accomplished The musical part of the program was furnished by tha Merry makers of Maple school, singing a group of vocal numbers and Marilyn Renn of the same school who gave two piano solos. Franklin C Kendziora of Ta coma on Sunday. Miss McGrew attended Whitman college and is an Alpha Chi Omega. The army officer is stationed at the Walla Walla air base. GEKVAIS Dale Leaahart, m of Mrs. Nellie Leonhart formerly of Gervais, and Miss Lee Carey of Silverfon were married at Olympia, Wash., where the bridegroom's mother now lives. on April 2. They will live In Olympia temporarily. Dale was recently discharged from the air corps in which he served in India and Okinawa for three years. New Manager For Shoe Store Paul E. Skeen, Klamath Falls, will take over management of the Leon's shoe store on April 22, Charles Fokjer, proprietor,' an nounced Friday. Skeen has been manager of the Klamath Falls store of the chain and was recently elected to the school board there. His wife and two children will remain In Kla math Falls until the end of the school year. Skeen has been pres ident of the retail merchants' as sociation and active in tha cham ber of commerce. Bert Folger, local manager, will go to the Vancouver, Wash., store to replace E. R. Lent, who will go, to the Klamath Falls store. The organization operates eight stores in Oregon and Washington. Primary 3Iay Queen Vote Slated Tuesday Primary election for Willamette university's May Queen will be held on the university campus on Tuesday, it Is announced by Con Pavlock, manager for May weekend- Final election is scheduled for April 23. The development contemplates a reservoir, diversion dam, tun nel and power plan ti with trans mission lines extending to the company's station near Roseburg. The dam will be located approxi mately one mile above the falls. C. E. Strickiin. secretary of the commission, said this was probab ly the outstanding power company development now under consider ation in Oregon. Lt. Cmdr. Purvine Discharge! !1 Seattle Lt. Comdr. Ralph X. Purvine wai released from the United States naval medical reserve this week at Seattle, after three- and a half years of service. For over three years ha was stationed at the selective service headquarters. For the last two months he has been stationed at the Corvallis naval hospital. On April 22 Dr. Purvine will resume his medical practice with the Salem Clinic.
