The Associated Press 60-stock average climbed .8 of a point to 80.3, where it was just .1 of a point below the February top. Industrial and utility components of the average broke through their highs of two months ago.' Bullish sentiment which brokers said was based on anticipation of new government poire adjust ments and further relaxation of controls in machinery and equip ment industries took hold from the -tart. Motors, steels, and retail stores, along with building, air transport and oil shares, were leaders in the upturn. Rails were aided by an nounced plans to seek freight rate increases. Stock spiit-ups helped individual stocks. Transfers of 1.710.000 shares compared with 1.250,000 Monday. Of 1031 issues registering, the second broadest market since late February, 625 advanced and 248 declined. Rye Continues At Record High CHICAGO. April MAVMiy rye marked up another 26 year high in grain futures trading to day when it advanced the permis sible 5 cent limit and finished at $2.37.. Moderate1 commission house de mand uncovered light offerings, aftef ar easy start, and when a mid morning advance of 3 cents at Minneapolis was marked up, short covering came Into the mar ket and despite some profit cash ing the advance was steady. Deferred oats, the only other contracts not at ceiling ; prices, were easy at the start and did not climb to above yesterday's close until near the finish when some aggressive buying came into the pit. At the finish wheat, com and barley were unchanged . at ceiling prices, oats were unchanged to "6 higher than yesterday's close. May 83, arid rye was unchanged to 5 cents ' higher. May $2.37?.
