ANGEL, April 5 (Special) In this day of specializing and segregating it was edifying to see the parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic church gathered in fam ily groups at the different masses last Sunday morning to observe Family Communion Sunday, the first time ever observed in Mt. Angel. The. idea was originated by Father Damion Jentges, pastor of St. Mary's since last summer and a strong advocate of family life. Seeing that the modern tend: ency in religious as well as secular matters was to single out the in dividual for instruction, training or entertainment and also to help all the more to break down the bond which holds the family to gether, Father Darnian introduced the family communion Sunday which will henceforth be observed here on e"ery fifth Sunday of the month, or four times a year. Tickets for the dinner are available through any member of the groups or through the office until Sunday, April 7. Special entertainment is plan ned for the group after the din ner which will be served by mothers of the young people. Plans for the evening have been in charge of a special young peo pie's committee hezded up by James Ragland, vice president of the local senior high group. Sewing Meetings Plan Of Silverton Croup SILVERTON, April 5 (Special) Members of the Junior Woman's Guild of the First Christian church are making plans for a number of events, among them two special sewing meetings, one April 8 at the home of Mrs. Louis Wavra, and the other April 15 at the home of" Mrs. M. McCullough. At these, sewing will be done for the bazaar which is to be held April 20 at the social rooms of the church. On April 19, the group will sponsor a vocal concert at the Eugene Field auditorium with Veltie Pruitt as soloist. On May 6, the Guild will entertain the members of the Immanuel Luther Junior Woman's Guild. Officers will also "be elected at this meet ing. Appointed as committees for the bazaar are general. Silverton Friends Honor Mrs, Johnson SILVERTON, April 5 (Special) Mrs. Martin Johnson who will leave soon for Reedsport was en tertained at the home of Mrs. Glenn Price at a farewell party. Convention Opens Sunday The annual missionary conven tion of the Christian Missionary Alliance, North 5th at Gaines st., will get off to a start Sunday morning with B. H. Alexander from Central China 'as the first speaker, 11 o'clock a. m. He will also speak for the evening service. The convention will start each night at 7:30,, and run through eight days with no Monday and Saturdays. Tuesday Mrs. Gustave Woerner from Netherlands, East Indies, will show pictures and re bate of the work in that field. She "will also tell of their escape from the Japanese. Wednesday Alexander will be leaving and the Rev. J. W. Whipple from French Indo China will snow pictures and tell of their experiences. He and his wife were returned on the Gripsholm. Sunrise. Breakfast to . Be Held by Fellowship A special sunrise service and fellowship breakfast for all mem bers of the Pilgrim fellowship groups of the First Congregational church, is planned for Easter by a committee headed up by Patricia Howard. Darold Elkins, , sponsor for the senior high group is lead ing in the planning of the service. All persons will go in a group to the site selected for the service. Dr. Huntington Leads Group at Conference Dr. Seth R. Hunlington, pastor of the First Congregational church in Salem, will lead the college age group during the entire Saturday session of the Congregational Stu dent conference in Corvallis Fri day and Saturday, April 5-J. Fundamental questions concern ing religion and life will be con sidered personal problems of stu dents the meaning of human life the Christian faith Christian fellowship and vocations. Dele gates will attend from University of Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific University, Willamette University, Lewis and Clark college, and others. Purse Returned Silverton Woman After Interval SILVERTON, April 5 (Special) Returning stolen articles has be come somewhat of a habit of Silverton thieves. Officer W. O'Brien believes, while admit ting many stolen things are still missing. Last Saturday, Mrs. Jennie Gibson reported a purse contain ing considerable money and a war bond was stolen from her apartment house at 317 West Main st. Wednesday as she was eating supper she heard a noise in the rear hall of her home. It sounded as if someone had thrown a stick of wood or a rock against the door. When she came out she found a package done up with paper, and. string. Investigation revealed that the package con tained her purse with contents unmolested. In making the report at the city hall Mrs. Gibson said it was a new trick but that if someone was to steal her purse she was glad they returned it- Police reported that similar cases had come to light at Silver ton during the past few months.
