Married
News has Borne from New
Zealand telling of the marriage
of Miss Muriel Joy White,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gil
bert White of Salem, to Mr. Ron
F. Buick of Masterton. New
Zealand, on Saturday, March
18. The bride sailed from San
Francisco on February 23 and
was married three days after
her arrival. The couple met in
Europe in 1938 when they were
touring the continent.
. The ceremony took place at
the Episcopal church in Master
ton with the Rev. Archdeacon
Kenney officiating.
For her wedding the bride
chose a white satin gown fash
ioned with a train. The shirred
bodice was designed with a
sweetheart neckline and long
sleeves with points over the
wrists. Her fingertip veil of
bridal Illusion, cascaded from a
tiara of flowers. She carried
white prayer book marked with
white orchids. Mr. Horace Chap
pel, the groom's cousin, gave the
bride in marriage.
Miss Joan Gemmell was the
bridesmaid and wore a full
skirted pink net frock with pink
lace bodice made with long
sleeves. She carried an old fash
toned nosegsy of pastel flowers.
Mr. Sidney Campbell stood
with the groom as best man.
After a wedding trip the cou
ple Returned to Masterton to
make their home on the groom's
sheep ranch, "Burnside."
The new Mrs. Buick is a grad
. uate of Salem schools and Wil
lamette university. She has been
dean of girls at the West Linn
high school for several years.
Her husband served with the
New Zealand army In the Pa
cific for three and a half years.

Charter night of Chadwick
chapter. Order of Eastern Star
was observed Tuesday night at
the Masonic Temple. Three of
the six charter members who
were present included Mrs. Lena
Cherrirtgton, Mrs. Milton L. Mey
ers and Miss Virginia Byrd. They
were honored In the East and
presented with corsages.
Past worthy grand officers
honored were Mrs. Paul H. Hau
ser, sr., Mr. Rex Davis, Mx Mil
ton Meyers and Mr. Phil Sweit
rer. Mrs. Fred Keeler, associate
worthy matron, presided in the
absence of Mrs. E. E. Bergman.
Mrs. David Cameron gave a
group of solos and Mrs. Albert
Cohen read a tribute to the char
ter members. A dinner preceded
the meeting.
The Qniltcrs at the First Chris
tian church had their last meet
ing. Tuesday. They have been
meeting every Tuesday for over
40 years and believe they have
made about IS quilts a year to
sell for the benefit of the church.
Membership at one time was
over 30 but now surviving, char
ter members are only four; Mrs.
Arthur Welch, Mrs. Fred Pugh,
Mrs. W. A. Chute snd Mis. Rob
ert L. Hart.

ter of Beta Sigma sorority met
Tuesday at the Hulsey avenue
residence of Mrs. Ed Lewis,
they combined their business
meeting with a surprise shower
for Mrs. Roger Quackenbush.
Bouquets of flowering quince
and grape hyacinths provided
the decorations. The serving ta
ble, cleverly arranged with a
stork, was centered with a two
tone cake, half of which was
pink upon which was written
"a girl," and the other half of
blue with "a boy." Tall tapers
and pink flowers were also
used. Assisting Mrs. Lewis were
Miss Ethel Redden and Miss
Lois Gillings.
During the business session,
presided over by Miss Hazel
Shutt, April 13 was set as
tentative date for the Spring
rummage sale, with Miss Nor
ma Sic t ton as committee chair
man. The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Loyal A.
Warner on E street, April 16.
