SwcglcHost To Servicemen For Holidays SWEGLE There were many service men home for the Christ ma holidays, eome for the first time in several year. PFC Ken neth R. Morris, son of Mrs. E. A. Terrill of 300 Fisher road, was home after many months service in the south Pacific and later with the army of occupation at Seoul, Korea. He enlisted in 1941. Ensign Louis Neumann,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neumann of Garden road, spent his first , Christmas at home In five years. Lester Bolton has received his discharge from the navy and Is at home with his wife and two chil dren. Captain Dalke was at the home 6f his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Men no Dalke. . Seaman Kenneth Purcell left Christmas day for-Norfolk, Va. - after a leave at the home of his oa rents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Norton. , John J. Brennan, PHM 3c and Mrs. Brennan were up from Oceanside, Calif, to spend the hol idays at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brennan. Roger Wicklander, a gunner's . mate, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. . Wicklander, was expected home from the Marshall islands for the holidays. Navy Officers to Take Employment On Terminal Leave WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 -() Reserve officers released from active duty In the navy, marine corps and coast guard since Nov. 21 may enter civil employment immediately without surrender ing their terminal leave pay. Under a ruling made public yesterday by the navy, such offi cers are now entitled to receive the pay of their civil position concurrently with their terminal leave pay from the navy. Also, the navy said, officers who waived their terminal leave prior to Nov. 21 In order to ac cept Immediate federal civil em ployment, may now submit a claim for a lump sum settlement of leave pay. m mi Maj. Clemens Returns From European Duty - News has been received that Ma. Arthur Clemens, son of Mr, and Mrs. Ben Clemens of Wasco, Calif- formerly of the Hazel Green district here, has returned from a year of duty in Europe. He served in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland in the ord nance department of the late Gen. George Patton's" Third Army.. Excerpts from a Wasco, Calif, newspaper tells of Major Clemens' experiences, related as a guest speaker at the Wasco Exchange club luncheon. Lewis: One of the features that amazed the Germans, Major Clemens in dicated, was the efficiency with which the Americans maintained their supply lines, the break through of Patton at St Lo and the speed in which. France was crossed. Another feature of the ordnance department was the maintenance of repair depots be hind the fighting lines. Major Clemens is now in the contracting business in Wasco with his father where his wife and children reside. He took his ROTC training at Oregon State college and his officer's training at Fort Benning. He is a graduate of Sa lem schools. Holley Westenhouse, S 1c, has been on a 10-day leave from the battleship Pennsylvania, visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs. Del Westenhouse. Jim Kelly of the Seabees has I been on leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kelly. Dan Young, recently discharg ed veteran, cousin of R. R. Mag- arell, has reenlisted for three years' service, and is back again on the arranged furlough based on his former army service of over three years. Mailer-Family Dine At Jones Residence McALPIN Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mader and sons Howard and Don ald enjoyed Christmas dinner at the W. A. Jones home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Fischer and son Morris visited at the El bert Neal home In Salem Sunday where they had the family Christ mas reunion. ' Dorothy Lang is spending the Christmas vacation with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Lang. She Is employed -in Salem. SHELBURN Mr. and Mrs. Boatwright and family are now located in their new home recent ly purchased from Ben Denny. Denny left for Myrtle Point to make his home with his niece.
