However, the house , overrode the senate on one, major point, and this was a reverse pattern of the general procedure. The sen ate appropriations committee struck from the bill, as it came from the house, $800,000 which was ear-marked for the construc tion of power transmission lines at the Central Valley project in California. At house insistence. the money finally was restored, bringing the total appropriation for various units of the Central Valley project to $19,213,000 Disagreement In most cases, where the house and senate disagreed on appropri ations, the conference committee arrived at a compromise. Tor the Colorado-Big Thompson project in Colorado the house al lowed 73,000,000, but this was boosted to $1,500,000 by the sen ate. An appropriation of $5,570,t00 to permit the construction of a power transmission line from Brush to Holyoke, Colo., finally was agreed upon Senators also finally obtained an increase in the Columbia basin project, Washington, from $10, 050,000 to $10,500,000.
