Mrs. Harlan Skelton, sister of
the bride, was matron of honor.
She wore a gown of pastel blue
and carried a colonial bouquet
of pink roses and bouvardia.
Mr. Eugene Hilfiker, RM 2c,
USCG, stood with his brother as
: best man. Ushers were Rev. Lyle
Leach, Mr. Howard Leach, Mr.
Harvey Hanson, Mr. Allen Sie

Salem high school and has re
cently returned from service in
the army air corps. The bride
has been employed at secretary
to the city superintendent of

A short business meeting was
held. Gift contributions vill be
made to patients at the tubercu
losis sanitorium. Alta Cannoa
reported on the Tan American
ism topic and all took part in
the roll call reports. An ex
change of gifts followed and
carols were sung.

Though the proof of the pud
ding Is in the eating, the sauce
might also influence the verdict.
There's hard sauce, soft
sauce, foamy sauce each with
a special virtue, some women
like to combine soft I and hard
sauce.
I blush , when I give some of
these recipes, for I heard the
grocer tell several people only,
this morning that wyesk we have
no butter. 'However, w can
u?e margarine for sauces.
DORIS' HARD SAUCE
4 pound butter, creamed
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons boiling water'
1 beaten egg "white
1 teaspoon vanilla
Add sugar to creamed butter,
add water very slowly so mix
ture will not curdle, beat 5 mjn- j
utes and add. egg and vanilla.
This sauce is fluffy and will
keep several days.
REGULAR HARD SAUCE
V4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice..
Cream butter and sugar, add
vanilla to taste, and 'lemon.
FOAMY HARD SAUCE
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup whipped cream
V4 teaspoon lemon juice .
1 egg
Cream butter, add sugar and
beaten egg and
fold in cream.
SOFT HARD SAUCE
I cup sugar

cup evaporated milk'V
Cream butter and sugar

Tuesday night in honor of the
Modern Beauty college students.
Mrs. Esther Wilson acted as
chairman with Mrs. Nellie Gil
pin assisting. Miss Clara June
Peppering was mistress of cere
monies and corsages were pre
sented to the instructors, Mrs.
Garnet Johnson, Mrs. Nettie
Mae Grisham ' and Mrs. Edna
Sipola, by the class..
Miss Pearl Ledgerwood of
McMinnville was announced as
the winner of the recent con
test conducted by the school.
The two captains, Miss Clara
June Pepperling of Stayton' and
Mrs. Esther Wilson of Salem,
were also presented with prizes.
' After the dinner an exchange
of gifts was held around the
tree with Jimmy Wallas as
Santa Claus. Christmas carols
were sung during the evening.

pound Christmas turkey is made by
usinc 6 to 8 cups crumbfed cornbread
in place of the ordinary bread in yur
favorite recipe. Besides the celery,
onion, parsley, egg and seasonings,
add 2 cups of chopped Hpe olives!

To 6 cups cooked, peeled, mashed
yams add melted butter, two beaten
eggs, sugar and pastry spices to taste.
Put in a greased casserole and bake
