Heaths Visit With Parents 5 Naval Officer Comet From California To Detroit Home. GATES U. Comdr. Vergil T. Teath and Mrs. Heath and baby of Carmel, Calif., are visiting his parent, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Heath. They came Saturday. . Euene Carey and his father, A. E. Carey, spent the weekend at Summer lake duck hunting. Eu gene makes hi home in Portland. Mrs. H. Bock left Stfnday to make her home with her daugh ter Elizabeth in Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Garrison left Sunday for Independence to work in the M & F stores. Slaters Visit ' In Mill City MILL CITY Mr. and Mrs. Jo Slater and children of West fir, were weekend guests of Mr, and Mrs. William Timm and fam ily. The Slater family were en route to Paisley where they will live. Slater is Mrs. Timm's broth r. Mrs. Emma Henderson of Al bany visited her niece, Mrs. Wil liam Timm, several -days last Week. Dorothy Higdon and Jean Gor ton of Salem spent the weekend at the S. G. Higdon home. , Mrs. Anna Swift returned Thursday after spending several weeks in California with her daughters and families. , Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Roberts and family and Howard Farmers - spent the weekend at Tillamook. Silvertoii Has Lodge Birthday SILVERTON .Home temple No. 21, Pythian Sisters , observed homecoming and the 34th anni versary of the order Monday. Knights of Pythias were guests. A 6:30 dinner opened the af fair, followed by a short business meeting. A report was' given of theattendance of 12 members at the golden anniversary of Cen trajja temple at Salem. Home temple was instituted Dec. 4, 1911r bjr the late grand chief, Elizabeth Stinson of Salem, assisted by the degree staff of Centralia temple and the officers f Una temple, Aurora. Edward Terry officiated. The bride is a daughter 6f Mr. and; Mrs. C. L. Pennell who live on the Dr Peery 'arm a few miles east of here. She has been employed for sev eral years in the office of the " Scio Mill & Elevator company here. Her husband has been in the employ of the Roaring River Logging company for several years. Installa tion will be a joint session with subordinate officers of all Polk county granges at Rickreall grange hall December 14. A cov ered dish dinner will precede in stallation. Rickeyj School Lmicli0s Start FOUR CORNERS Claude C Ashby, chairman of the Rickey school board, has announced that arrangements have been complet ed with tjhe U S. department of agriculture forf joint sponsorship of a 1945-46 school luncheon pro gram at Rickeyj school This is the second year in which children 'at the school will be served luncheons at low cost. It was estimated ?by Ashby that 65 students will be served daily at school, about the same number as served! last year. Under a coojperative agreement with the government, Ashby said. the Rickey school will obtain the labor and facilities needed to pre pare nooh meals, and the pupils will contribute part of the cost of all fodds purchased. Child Burned While at Play 'QUEENER Claudia the eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hinrich of the Queener community was severely burned about the lower part of her body and legs Friday when her diesa caught fire as she accidently back ed into an open heating stove while at play in her home. Mrs. Hinrich left the stove open while she stepped outside to ob tain wood for the fire. She heard the child scream and rushed in to find her clothes aflame and w.s able to remove the dress.
