' fete : ' - Bronze Star ' Awarded to PFC Carson WITH THE 37th INFANTRY DIVISION ON LXjZON For Ihe- roic achievement in action -on Luzon the bronze star medal has been awarded to PFC James , 'Woody' Carson, 21, son of 'Mr. and Mrs. Claude L. Carson, 640 S. Summer st, Salem, Ore. When his battalion suffered se vere casualties near Fort Stotz enburg, Luzon, Carson volun teered to serve as a jitter bearer and made four trips to the front line under heavy . Worley;' hus band of Mrs. Ruth Worley, route one, box 342E, is among Oregon men who have left the- 315th bomb wing, Guam, for the Unit ed States. Worley will be discharged from the air force upon his arrival in this country. U. 8. NAVAL HOSPITAL, Pearl Harbor, T. H. WITH A LANDING CRAFT FLOTILLA, Palau Islands-De-layediHTlifford Earl Shafer, motor machinist's mate, third class, route 1, Hubbard, Ore., served aboard an LCI (L) in the final days of the Pacific war, patroling the waters' of the Carolines to block ade the remaining Jap garrisons. 1 The flotilla received a "well done" from . its commodore, Cdr. M. B. Brown, USN, of Fargo, N. Some of the flotilla's ships have been assigned occupational duties, now that the Jap garrisons -have j sur rendered. I ' DALLAS Srt.
