4 Si pagx'tdi Th OREGON STATESMAN. SaUm, Orqoou Tusdar.Morolng. October 1 1S4S 1 v Seasonal Highs Established in Grain Market CHICAGO, Oct. i(iP). New seasonal peaks were established in all grain futures pits today on general buying which boosted prices around 2 cents a bushel in some cases. Traders said more investment buying - appeared . today on such bullish influences as a belief that congress might enact the Page bill which would boost parity prices substantially; forecasts for frost in parts of the corn belt, -and good demand for cash grain. Deliveries making new. highs for the season included May, July and September wheat and rye, July corn, July and ep,tember oats, and all deliveries of barley: Qg-cember corn at one time sold at the ceiling of $1.19,2 a bushel, r Wheat closed . to 1 H cent higher than the previous finish, December $1.76 corn was to 1 up, December $1.18-1.18Vk; . oats were 14 to 2 cents higher, December 66,i-; ry was1 up Ya to 2 cents, December $1.54-1.54, and barley was li to 34 cents higher, December' $1.18. ; - Demands for Metals, Rails Send Stocks Up NEW YORK Oct. 8 -(JP)- Ac five demand i for steels, metals, rails and assorted industrials sent today's stock market to a new eight-year high with gains rang- ' ing from fractions to around a point and more. " m Strength also appeared in some aircrafts and utilities, farm imp lements, chemicals, oils and , spe cialties. Extreme gains for the session were shaded a bit by sell- ,' ing in the last hour but most issues held up fairly well. investors paid little attention to the gloomy strike situation.. Even "a scheduled drop of 6.2 per cent in steel making this week be cause of the shortage of bitum inous failed to cause much selling. Of 1000 issues dealt in, 585 ad vanced, . 207 declined and 208 were unchanged. Volume totaled 1,780,000 shares against. 1,420,000 Friday. The Associated Press 60 stock composite rose .3 of a point to 72.2, highest since March 31, 1937. Industrials were up .4" to 97.0, summit since Aug. 19, 1937. Home Electric Equipment to Be Available Electric ranges and refrigerators , are now in mass production, Carl Hogg of Hogg Bros, announced following his return late last week from a Frigidaire sales confer ence in Portland. Recent war. production board rulings have rescinded any and all restrictions oa the sale of elec tric ranges to the public, and sam ple Frigidaire products he saw at the conference, right off the pro- Auction line, had all the quality, workmanship and eye appeal of , pre-war models, Hogg said. Rapid reconversion and the a vaUabmty of facilities at the Frig idaire plants In Dayton indicate housewives will soon be able to purchase most Frigidaire products, . he declared.' i Salemj Market Quotations The prices below supplied ky i 1. eal grocer arc Indicative of the daily market prices paid to (rowan by Sa lem buy era but are net guaranteed by The Statesman: BITTER, KGGS AND POULTRY V?at WUhMI Premium - - , , -; ' ' aa No. I .
