Hurley, lives at 425 N. 14th St., Salem, Ore., serves aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, one of 20 aircraft car riers in an armada of 133 combat ships that aided j in forcing the surrender of Japan. The Bon Homme Richard) identified by Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nim itz, as one of the ships of the line under Admiral William F. Knapp was fined 850 when ht entered a plea of guilty to unlawful possession of ia . slot machine in Stayton justice court Saturday. The slot machine was confiscated by Sheriff Denver Young and Deputy James Gar vin when they visited a bowling alley in Mill City on a general tip received following a disturb ance at the motion picture show in Mffl City. -; The investigation was started at the theater when some one in a playful mood put a stink bomb in a hole in the rear door of the theater. j . t-, ' :' Knapp appealed to the officers to take charge of a drunk in his bowling alley when ! he heard they T.ere in town. The officers complied and found not only the drunk but the slot machine in which they seemed more inter ested. They! took it and Knapp, proprietor of the bowling alley. Knapp appeared in Justice of the Peace Walter Bell's court in Stayton on j the ' way to Salem. After paying; his fine Knapp re turned to Salem.
