He entered the military service in 190S and was commissioned a second lieu tenant in 1912. , f The general spent three years with the army of occupation in Germany Jn World war X, and. then went to the command and general staff school at It.! Lea venworth, graduating: in 1123. He was then assigned to demonstra tion troops at the infantry school at Ft. Benning, Ga., and in 1927 was graduated from the army war college, :The next three years he spent with the war depart ment general staff. .. I From 1930 until 1933 he was at the field artillery - school at Ft SilL Okla- with I infantry demon stration troops and then , went to headauarters . oi the eighth; corps area as assistant chief of! staff for military t intelligence. ' where he remained until 1937 After two years with the SOtfc infantry regiment, first as execu tive officer and then as command ing officer, he ; rejoined jthe . war department general staff where he stayed until January, 1 1942. In January. 1942, he was made a brigadier general and placed in command of the infantry train ing center at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Art, which j was his last assignment before organiz ing the army ground ; forces re placement depot at Ft Meade. In Seotember. 1944. while at Ft Meade he was made a major general.
