JEFFERSON (Special) CpL
Lloyd Grim,; son of Mr. and Mrs.

"never seen so many happy GIs"

1 his parents here. t
The corporal, a clerk of supply
j in a fighter squadron, took his
; first airplane trip over Germany
the day that nation surrendered.
He described such cities as
; Aachen, Cologne, Dusseldorf,
Duessberg and Bonn as "a mess";
i said, "I don't think there was a

j large as he had thought "I'd say

"It was jhard to realhe" that
S large scale battles were raging
j but a few weeks before in the
parts of Germany where "the
i fields looked So peaceful and quiet
. jwith the cows and sheep feeding
i on the grass as if nothing had dis
turbed them. It all seemed like
; .a dream, a fairy tale that couldn't
be true. But! from the looks of
the casualty lists, it must be true."
) Corporal Grim described France
. "- the prettiest country of them
. all" including Belgium, Ger
many and England that he saw
on the flight, although "Germany
.' was the most modern with big
auper highways" where "the only
.vehicles on the roads were G I
trucks." -i
The corporal has been in Eng

permitted it to j drift slowly to
ward thelargesi concentration of
survivors, who climbed aboard on

. . 5 At least half the crew 'of the

CHICAGO, June HA-Grain
markets made a poor beginning
today, wheat dipping sharply and
rye losing more than two cents
under commission house liquida
tion, but many of the losses were
recovered on a late; rally. 1
Trade sources attributed the
liquidation to disappointment over
failure of the government! to in
crease June subsidies to flour
millers and to a belief that a
technical correction may have
been due inasmuch as the recent
broad, buying movement has lifted
all wheat, corn and rye prices to
new seasonal highs.
Wheat led the early break and
was off more than a cent at times.
Commission house? - with j ' south
western connections! led the early
selling, apparently hedging against
purchases of cash gtain. j
Rye, off minor fractions at the
start, soon plunged under stop
loss selling that followed the dip
in wheat. !
