April 13, 1S43 PAGE THKEE Reclamation Bureau Plans x 20 Water Control Projects Costing Nearly $100 Million "WASHINGTON, AprU K.--Twenty Oregon Irrigation, flood control and power projects, estimated to cost nearly $100,000,000 r included in the revised post-war construction plan of the reclama tion bureau, reported to congress today. - They would furnish water-for nearly 500,000 acres of new land, ' Increase the irrigation supplies for 167,500 additional acres and ere- ate facilities for 7800 kilowatts of hydro-electric power. " Two of the Oregon projects are . under construction the Modoc unit of the Klamath and the De schutes the remainder ."under study." . Great Dams Planned Largest of the group is the pro posed $16,066,000 Grande Ronde (eastern Oregon) project for flood control, 800 KW of power and irrigation of 70,000 acres with ,' supplemental water for 26,400 through construction of S three earth dams, canals and drains. The Medfprd-Sams Valley-De-benger Gap jproject on the Rog river is expected to cost $13,740,- '000. In addition to irrigating 31, 150 acres and providing 13,200 acres ; with supplemental water, - it is planned for flood control and development of 7000 KW of power. At a cost of $12,416,500 the Yamhill project, including an earth dam and canals, would irri gate 65,800 acres and provide flood control. ,. The $10,335,700 Tualatin project would include earth dams, canals, drains and pumping plants to irri gate 46,100 acres. Other Projects i Other projects In the Oregon program: Klamath, Modoc unit, dikes and pumping plants to irrigate 12,500 acres from Tule lake; estimated cost $410,000. . Deschutes, earth dam and ca nals for irrigation of 50,000 acres: estimated cost $2,300,000. Bully creek, Malheur river, earth, dam and canals for flood , control! and irrigation of 5000 acres, $1,153,000. Canby, Molalla river, canals, . pumping plant and pipeline for irrigating 1675 acres, $302,000. " Crooked river (Ochoco), earth! dam, canals and pumps for flood control ! and irrigation 8400 acres, supplemental 10,100, $1,965,000. Merlin, Rogue river, earth dam and canals for irrigation 9210 acres, 500 supplemental, $2,904,000. Talent, Bear creek, earth dam and canals for flood control and irrigation 3590 acres, 11,500 sup plemental; $2,342,000. Baker, Powder river, earth dam, canals, pumps for flood control, supplemental water for - 47,000 acres; $3,845,000. Illinois valley, earth dam, ca nals for irrigation 11,200 acres, supplemental 5400; $5,300,000. Deschutes storage, earth dam for supplemental water on 47,000 acres; $1,311,000. Paulina, Beaver creek, earth ' dam and canals to irrigate 3500 acres, supplemental 1700; $712,000. Post, Crooked river, earth dam to irrigate 12,000 acres, supple ' mental 2500; $1,647,000. Fullers Visit In Rpekaway Over Weekend RICKREALL Mr. and Mrs. George Fuller visited in Rockaway with Mr. and Mrs. Chet Couch man on Sunday. ;f Mci and Mrs. Steward of .Gree ley, Colo., visited Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Hart this week. They in tend to buy a home in -Salem in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Morrison and sons Orville jr. and Allen, visited at the W. C. Palmers Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Crowley and Leon ard moved last week to the home formerly occupied by the Joe Simmons. They recently sold their place to Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, who also moved, but their dog. Spot, returns every chance he gets. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Smith of Portland visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Elliott Sunday. The Rickreall grange held a dance Saturday night with music by the Johnson family who rive a few miles north of Rickreall. The Lai kin brothers have been doing quite a bit of carpentering lately, and recently finished the construction of a machine shop on their property in town. It is ex pected it will make farm repairs much simpler for them. They al so removed an old apple tree from the back yard and moved- th chicken house to a new position behind their granery. A play entitled "Old Fashioned School Days" was presented April 6 by the, Rickreall grade school children. The "teacher" was Phylllis Reynolds and the direc tor, Jimmy Shott. The children played the part of the scholars. Later a reading was given by Mar- jorie Johnson, and a song by Eva Gene Miller. Gervais Juniors Hosts at Senior Class Banquet GERVAIS Places for 80 were set at the Junion Senior banquet and prom at the high school audi torium Thursday night. This was the first formal held by Gervais high school. Patrons and patron esses were Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Seely and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley DeJardin. . Members of the schol board and others were invited guests. Dennis Manning, president of the Junior : class, gave the welcome and Charles Patterson, president of the senior class made the re sponse. ,t v The - senior class will waa read tby Alma Keen and the class pro phecy ' by Ellen . Johnson. Karl Kahle Jr., principal, spoke. Claude Bird and his orchestra furnished music for the dance. Swegle Group Has Visitors SWEGLE Mrs. J. Warren Miles and small son, Glenn are now at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McKinney. They have been with Pvt Miles at La Junita, Colo., for two years. He was recently transferred to the air base at Bakersfield, Calif., for the gunner's school training. McKinney went to Bakersfield last week to bring them here where they will make their home for the present Mrs. McKinney also has as guests her aunt and two sisters from Kansas who are on their way home from Seattle where they visited their sons and other rela tives. A guest this past week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brennan on East Turner Road was her niece Shirley Miller from Monitor. Silverton Hills Girl Visits San Francisco SILVERTON Patricia Mauld ing has been pledged to Gamma Phi Beta sorority at the University i of Oregon. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Maulding of Silverton Hills and spent part of spring vacation with her sister. Marjory Maulding in San Fran cisco where she is with the office! of war information.
