George M. Nebon of Scotts Mills has purchased the ranch of Paul Simms southeast of Aumsville. He has two boys in school here. Mrs. Hazel Smelser and her father, J. Walker, visited at the .Luta Fuson home Sunday. Lester Ellis has sold his house east of the Southern Pacific tracks and purchased the Brinkman prop erty, where he will move soon. He intends to remodel the old house, an old land mark that has stood for more than 50 years. "British Tighten Food Ration This Weekend LONDON, March 31-(P)-The British government announced to night that the civilian cheese ra tion would be cut from three to two ounces weekly per person, effective Sunday. The option of obtaining either marmalade or sugar from sugar coupons was withdrawn, effective tomorrow. Valley Obituaries Melvin Wood LEBANON Melvin Wood, born in Albany, Feb. 16, 1912, died in Lebanon March 28. Burial was made in Union cemetery in Craw fordsville after services in the Howe chapel in Sweet Home. He is survived by his widow and brother, Kief f er WTood, , of this vicinity; by his father and a sis ter in California; a sister, Nelda Day, in Alsea and a brother John Wood in the navy. Grains Steady Through Very Dull Session CHICAGO, Mar. 31-(;P)-Wheat and rye gained major fractions to day and other grain futures mar kets were about steady in an ex tremely j dull session that was largely devoted to evening up op erations in preparation for a week end which may bring important developments in Europe. ' The trade was nervous and price changes, though small, were rapid. Pit operators were on the bear side at the start, influenced by the good ,war news. The offerings were hot large, however, and all markets rallied quickly after min or dips. Orders to sell wheat appeared on all the minor turns.
