XaeppeU that their daughter, Mrs. Charles ' Shehorn of Model, Colo., has been taken home from the hospital but Jxer recovery will be very slow, . The Jtfbert and Ferris Koker families left for their homes in Oklahoma Sunday. The Koker brothers are carpenters, their bro-.therih-law, W. E. Davis, also a carpenter and Charles Standley remodeled the J. B. Powell house. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Shower left for California to visit his brother over. the holidays. , ; Not All Medals Won on Battlefield, Friends Believe Father, Soldier Son Each Minus Legr Motht3r Falls, Breaks Arm - SILVERTON, Dec JJ That all the people who' deserve medals are not in the armed forces,' was .the opinion of Silverton folk Sunday when they heard Mrs. J. P.. Rankin , remark, j "It could, have been worse', -'-v- ' '' I'-1.:' ,l : -v. " - Mrs. Rankin fell late Saturday night and broke her right arm. At first she had feared her hip was broken because it was badly bruised and gave her some pain. Two years ago Mr. Rankin had one foot removed.' In June of this year he lost his other leg. Then word came that their son, Ken neth, had lost a leg in battle in Italy. He is expected home Fri day of this week for the first time. Since his return to the states early this fall he has been hospitalized in-Utah. Mrs. Rankin" was busy preparing for ' his ; homecoming when she slipped on her husband's wheel chair runway. ,V But," she insists "it still could have been worse. At least well all be together at Christmas, and that's a lot" ! I Stinnetts Make Portland Trips CLOVERDALE Mr. and Mrs. J. H.' Stinnett made two trips to Portland last week. They took their daughter, . Ruby, for special medical care. . Ben Wipper, who has been prun ing, the trees of his large prune orchard, finished the Job and has left for a logging camp near Val setz. He will work there until the "spring. sheep, shearing begins. Mrs. Wipper- and boys, Donnie and Wally, remain here. The Consolidated Four Leaf Clover- club and Turner Better Homes and Garden club will hold Its Christmas exchange meeting Wednesday, December 20, at the home of Mrs. A. H. Hennies. Dallas Soldier Married To Provo, Utah Woman DALLAS Mr. and Mrs. George E. Klieverhave received the an nouncement,' of the marriage of . their son, MSgt. ' Kliever, to Naoma marriage Raymond E. Harward oh Saturday, November 18, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs Mel vin Harward, Provo, Utah. Sgt. Kliever has been a patient at "Bushnell General hospital. Brig ham City, Utah, since his return to the states in. August after serv ing with the local company for two and one-half years in New Guinea. He was seriously wounded at Biak Island, June 3. After Sgt Kliever is released from the hospital, they will take a trip along the Pacific coast to make their home' in Dallas. Store Used for Red Cross Work JEFFERSON The old Dever store building i about five miles west of Jefferson has been opened for use of the Dever Social, club as a Red Cross sewing room.' The first meeting was held December 7, in the store building, with Mrs. Nate Grate and Mrs. Harold Grate as hostesses. Mrs. V. E. Weathers, Mrs. M E. Winn and Mrs. Esther Chambers were appointed a com' mittee for the Red Cross work. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McCaw and family, who have been living about two miles northeast of Jet f erson, are moving this week to Crescent where he will work in a mill. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Little and family of Woodland, Wash., were in Jefferson Sunday to move fur niture from the house on Second street, which' they -recently sold to Mrs. Edith Kroschel; Turner Pastor Portland Guest I Rev. and' Mfsv Gene Robinson went to Portland where he was guest speaker at a mass meeting of the Christian churches of Port land at Englewood church Tues day night Mr. and Mrs. Ben ' Behrens, Norman, Sharon and Linda were guests of the Raymond Titus' Sun day. Other-guests were Rev and Mrs. Gene Robinson and Tim. Members of the Assembly of God church painted and redecorat ed the interior of the church and also placed a large sign in front of the building. Wood, coxswain, of Lebanon were quiet ly married at church ceremony in Aumsville, December 7, at 4 o'clock;' with only Immediate rel atives present. The bride's dress was a : navy blue sailor suit, and she wore a corsage of mixed flow ers. They were attended by fath ers of the bride and groom. The groom has been in theser- vice for three years; of which 18 months were on duty in the South Pacific, and expects to leave again as soon; as the ship is repaired. Funeral services for Ralph Hook, who died Sunday night at the Veterans hos pital in' Portland -will be held Wednesday morning at 8:15 from St Mary's Catholic church in Mt Angel Ekman's are in charge of the funeral. Burial will be in Cal vary cemetery , at Mt AngeL Ralph Hook was a veteran of World War I. He was born In Mt Angel, July 27, 1887 and had lived in Marion county , most of his life. Floyd Pense, who was seriously ill last week, is much better al though he has not gone back to work. Dallas Youth Center Proving Very Popular DALLAS The Christian Youth Center; in the Gail notei is prov ing to be a popular place with the young people of Dallas. This project is sponsored by nine churches of the city, which take turns at supervising. 'It is "open six nights a week to students of the junior high7 school and high school i and other young people of the community. Saturday after noon from 2 to 8 is given over to the pupils of the elementary schooL One: room is used for volley ball, shuffle board and, double deck tennis, the other one for ta ble games and reading Books, Bi bles, soft drinks end ice cream are on tale at all times. ll.-ts. Car berry, former pastor of St Paul's, was moved from prison camp at Davor to Japan in July and wes in good health -at that time..
