PAGE SIX Date Is Set Nuptials Sunday, "October 1 has been -set for the wedding day of Miss Megan Marie Pah-ham, daughter pi Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Fairham, and Professor Stephen C. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Smith of Spiceland, Indiana. The cou ple's engagement was announced in June. - The ceremony will be per formed at the First Methodist church with the bride's father officiating; at the afternoon nup tials at 3:30 o'clock. The bride - elect has asked her sister, Miss Edith Fairham, to be her honor attendant Bridesmaids will be Miss Mar garet Allen of Portland and Miss Wilma Carlson of Eureka, Calif. Dr. Robert E. Lantz will stand with Professor Smith as best man. Ushers will be Dean Wal-" ter Erickson and Rev. John L. Knight The wedding reception will be held Jn the Carrier room after the ceremony. i '.- Miss Fairham attended Mult nomah college and St! Helen's hall' junior college. She com pleted her cadet nurses training I at Good Samaritan hospital in Portland this month. Her fiance is a graduate of DePauw uni versity and a member of Phi Delta Theta. He is an instructor in economics at Willamette uni versity. f ' ; Alumnae at Myers' Home- I The home of Mrs. Burton A. Myers on North 24th street was the scene of the first Alpha Chi Omega alumnae meeting this fall on Monday -night. Mrs.' My ers is president of the alumnae group this year. i Assisting hostesses were Mrs. William Cole and Mrs. James B. Toung. After a dessert supper a business meeting was held. Plans were made for the winter activities of the group. Attending were Mrs. Paul Bale, Mrs. G. A short program was held with solos by Mrs Ray Webb, Mrs. Merlin Ready and Mr. Barker Corn- j forth. Miss t Wilda Seigmund gave a j reading on the founding of the Rebekah lodge. Recent Bride j Honor Guest Mrs. Gordon Montgomery (At leen Schwartz) was the inspira tion for a miscellaneous shower Tuesday - night at the Roberts apartments, when 'Miss Maxine - Moses" entertained a few friends in her honor. Bouquets of snapdragons and petunias were arranged about the room. The evening was spent informally. Bidden were Miss Constance Rutledge, Miss Helen Ruettgers, Miss Aldene Frey, Miss Mildred Clark, Miss Leota Crosson, Mrs, Charles Boelens, the guest of honor and the hostess. " Pvt. and Mrs. Montgomery were married September 1 in St Louis, Missouri. Pvt Montgom ery is with the 70th division and was stationed at Camp Adair prior to going to Fort Leonard . Wood. J. Minkiewitz, of Sa lem, was married to Sergeant Donald Ross. United States ar my, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C Ross of Newark, Ohio. The wed ding took place at the home of the groom's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard C. Ross. ! The afternoon ceremony was read by Rev. Schumacher at 4.-30 o'clock and was attended by members of the immediate fam ily. For her marriage the bride chose a sapphire blue ' jersey dress with red accessories. The couple was unattended. After a short wedding trip the newly weds returned to San Francisco, where they were honored at a reception at the Bernard Ross home. After Sergeant Ross left for his station at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri,' Mrs. Ross vis ited in San Jose with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Emory Hobbs (Peggy Man kiewitz), before returning to Sa : lem. Sergeant Ross was formerly stationed at Camp Adair. The new Mrs. Ross is connected with the United States department of agriculture. ! ' 1 Breakfast for j Jerry Cooney 1 A surprise birthday breakfast was given for Jerry Cooney on his l5th birthday Sunday. The party was given at the Leon C. Cooney residence on South 14th street. Smith, worthy high priestess, and her officers presided and conducted an im , pressive memorial service for the late Mrs. Sarah Oliver of Salem, and Mr. Julius Aim of Silverton, active members of the shrine for) many years. Mrs. Smith announced that Mrs. Ellenj Gabriel had received the appointment of state chair man for Oregon of the Margaret Caven club, which is a national dub in connection j with the white Shrine. The little boy has two sisters, Stephanie and Kathleen. The baby's grandmothers are Mrs. TJ. Scott Page, of Salem and Mrs, Stephen Downey of Port land.
