Custom Planing Mill to Open Soon j s" SILVERTON 7-" Christian JPet err son, former owner of the Peter j, son mill on the Abiqua, started i construction this week on a cus- I. torn planing mill -to be located near the Mind a en sawmill on the Sa lem' road. The mill, besides doing custom ' planing for cargos in transit, will r integrate its . operation with the Minden, Evans and Scotts Mills " lumber companies. Capacity will ' range between 75 and 90 feet' in ' an eight hour shift, and 15 men will be employed.- Plans call for the mill to go in to operation September 1. Arthur Lowe, of Los Angeles, former resident of this place, is in a Los Angeles hos pital where he is recovering from an operation for appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. -Ernest Gillespie have just finished painting their house. Gillespie was here on 25 days leave from duty at Oakland, Calif., returned to the base Thurs day. . Mrs. O. L. Brubaker received se vere burns on her hand and arm Thursday when a jar which she was lifting from the canning bath exploded in her hands. Liberty Farmers . Union To Discuss Measures LIBERTY Liberty Farmers Union will meet at the hall Tues day, Aug. 15 -at 8 pjn. The legis lative committee will present the soldiers educational bill and also the sales tax measure, passed by the legislature and referred to the people this fall election. All friends of Fanners Union are invited to attend and enter the discussion on these bills. Re freshments will be served. " , 5 Silverton Locea Visits of Mobile Blood-Donor Unit SILVERTON Because of its poor response to the Red Cross mobile blood receiving unit, Sil verton will no longer be visited by (his unit, according to infor mation -received this week by Dr. Pi A. Loar, chairman. Silverton was over 30 donors ' short of the desired quota. Dr. Loar said, in reference to the un it's visit here last week.
