The Buena Vista Woman's club had a not host dinner Iastreek and worked on quilts. Mrs. Wal ter Lierman was voted in as a member. Mrs. Chris Johnsbn sang a solo for the opening exercises. Nye who died March ! 3 at his home, 1144 North Cottage i street, in Salem, after a brief ill ness. Burial was made in Bel crest Memorial park. Mr. Nye was born on his fath er's donation land claim near Jef ' ferson, July 31, 1859 and! spent 'most of his life in the Willamette valley. He was a car motorman in Salem before busses took the place of the street cars, i j 'Mr. ' Nye and - Miss Clara P. Blakley were married in 1888. To this union four children! were born. Three of them are Jiving. ' He Is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Nye, three children, Merle Nye, of Syracuse, New York,' Mrs. . Ivell Haley, and Vernon Nye, "of Salem, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. ; ,1 . Mr. Nye's parents, J. "S. and Mary Childers Nye crossed the plains to .the Oregon country In 1849, by ox team. They witnessed many hardships while crossing the plains. Freexinr temperature in Scio was observed on local thermo meters March 21, unusually late in the season for such weather here. George Patrny is reported im proving at a Salem hospital. Patrny was for years a farmer, business man and wool and sheep dealer near Scio. Plans were outlined here this week . for a - large delegation of Scio women to visit the blood donor center at Salem March 28. Angeline Wesely arrived Tues day from San Francisco for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F, Wesely. She has been employed in California for a number of years.
