ANGEL Peter Gore, general chairman of the Bed Cross in this -district, reports the drive pro fret sing satisfactorily and hopes that by neat week all the canvassing;., except "the business district -will be complete.- The committee headed by Cor es, will -solicit from' the business houses. Thus far the returns from less than half "the district -have been turned fa and Gores said that re sponse from the country was bet ter than from the town districts. JOTTRSON Mrs. William Walls and Mrs. C M. Smith, co chairman of the Red Cross drive, report that over M per cent or $345.70 of the Red Cross quota of $640 was turned in during the first week of the drive. Several solicitors hare not made any re "port as yet; however Jefferson will easily go over the top, if all give generously, when solicitors call at homes and places of business. CLOVERDALE Mrs. Rose Buimwurth from Switzer, Ind., arrived Thursday at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and rMs. Wesley Goodiander. She plans to visit for one week before returning home. She spent a week at Prosser, Wash, -with another sister before coming here. Mrs. Bernice Wipeer and Mrs. ' Betty Draper, Red Cress solici tors for the Cleverdale district, have completed what they call a very successful - return. This district, supposed U raise $160 has gene over that sum by at least $10 now, aad a few fam ilies are yet to contribute. Marie Sherman, who was absent from Turner high school a week because of illness, is back in school and feeling fine again. Cecil Schulze, Panama. Valley Births LEBANON Twins, a boy and a girl were born Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Stubhar. They weighed five pounds, five ounces, and an even five pounds and have been named Ronald Dean and Bonnie Jean. The Stubhars al ready had two boys. These are the second pair of twins bora in Le banon within a month. SILVERTON Maj. and Mrs, Ray Vandiver are announcing the birth of a daughter, March 7. at Indianapolis. Mrs. Vandiver's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Leonard received word this week of the birth of their first grandchild. Both Maj. and Mrs. Vandiver re graduates - of Oregon State college. and Maj. Harris 'Agency for Zenith nearing Aid Mid-Willatoette Reports From PAGE SEC Joseph Crocker Funeral Held .Resident of Monmouth For 15 Years Dies : There Thursday : MONMOUTH Joseph Crock er, 78, died Thursday at his farm home east of town. He had been ill for some time. Born in Illinois, March 2, 1888, he grew to manhood in that state and was married to Estella wald en in 1892 at Windsor, El. After coming to Oregon they engaged In farming in Benton and Washing ton counties, and about 15 years ago bought a small tract near Monmouth which has been their home since. " He was a longtime member of the Christian church. Since organ ization of the Townsend clubs he has been especially active in local membership. Surviving are the widow and two daughters and seven sons; Mrs. Mabel G. Beal; Mrs. Daisy Cook; and Truman E. Crocker, all of Forest Grove; Jos eph of Sacramento; Curtis, Eu gene; John F. of Sweet Home; Wilbur E. of Beaverton: and Clarence F. at the San Diego re pair base. Funeral services : were held Saturday at the Christian church with Rev. W. A. Elkins officiat ing. Interment was made in Fir Crest cemetery, here. Boys Club Is Organized MONMOUTH A club for boys of the ages of 8 to 14 is being organized here, to be called the National American Pioneer club, and meetings will be held in building being renovated as a club house, on corner of Main and Ech ols streets, Thursday nights, 7:30 to 9 o'clock. Fisher Funeral Home in charge. , She. was born October 1, 1S5S at Eugene, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fisk. The family mov ed to Philomath, and on May 14, 1892 she was- married to Henry Buchanan at Corvallis. After sev eral years, they moved to Jeffer son, where she spent the rest of her life except for two years ago, when she moved to Albany. Mr. Buchanan died March S, 1923, and one son and a daughter preceded her in death. -r Suriving are two daughters, Ed ith of Jefferson, and Mrs. Lulu Donaca.of Blythe, Calif.; one son, Edward Buchanan of Shelton, Wash. Also seven grandchildren.
