DALLAS Fred West has re ceived word that his son, Major Dan C. West ' has been assigned as traveling signal service officer in ' the southwest Pacific. West left for overseas duty about six months ago. ' Li. Robert Woods is expected to arrive in Dallas next week to spend a leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird Woods. Woods "has -completed his training at Daytona Beach, Fla., and is being transferred to San Diego. A. K. Jansen has received word seaman second class, that he has been assigned . to convoy duty in the Pacific. Janzen is serving with the coast guard. Pvt. Don Robinson is spending a week's furlough in Dallas with his wife. Robinson is with the army air force engineers and has been transferred to Keams, Utah. .When he returns to his station he expects to be assigned to over seas duty. Ralph Livesay, technician fifth class, has arrived in Dallas to spend a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.! R- Livesay. Live say has spent the past two and a half years in Alaska.- : ; Gerald I A. i Richardson, son of Mr." and Mrs. C. V. Richardson, 541 Statesman street, has been promoted to sergeant. He is serv ing as an aircraft armorer in a fighter ' squadron in . England, -where he has been since last June. He was a freshman in Wil lamette university when he en tered " the service in '1942.; He writes that the air base to which be is attached entertained 150 English children on Christmas day, digging into their Christmas packages from home to give .the : children candy, treat some of . them had not enjoyed for many months. . : ' ' ' . Becoming a cadet in November, he re ceived preflight training at Santa Ana; primary at Mlra Lonu, Oxnard, Calif.; basic at Lemoore, Calif., and received his Wings and commission as a . second lieutenant at Tama, Ariz. ! Another son of the Rob erto family, Pfe. Richard Rina wald. Is now overseas. Sgt and Mrs. Robert Hall of Seaside spent Sunday at the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lank tree of Davis Court, Turner. On Monday both families attended a going-away dinner ; at the home of Chester Lanktree, son of the W. H. Lank trees, who yis leaving. for a naval training station. ' Gill Promises Single Agency Meat Control PORTLAND, Ore.,' Jan. 28-OP) Corrington Gill, national director of the president's committee for congested production areas, prom ised the Oregon committee on livestock marketing today to give every consideration" to its rec ommendation that meat control be put . under a single federal agency. . The livestock men, led by Prof. E. L. Potter, head of the Oregon State college division of . agricul tural economics, told him the sin gle control would assure adequate meat for both civilians and sol diers and prices for live animals in line with prices of dressed meats,' hides, pelts and other by products. Bond Chairman To Be Inducted SILVER TON Jack Spencer, manager of the Sprouse - Reitz store at Silvertort, will leave Mon day for Portland as the induction center. Mr. Spencer, who is also local chairman of the fourth war loan drive, expects to be able to return to Silverton for a few days to complete his affairs. Local friends have learned that Alex Stim, who has been under treatment in : San Diego hospital for several weeks, has applied and will be considered for a commis sion in the US navy reserves. Stim is rated as pharmacist's mate first class.! While at Silverton he was manager of Casey's : store, since sold and now known -as Weiby's department' store.- Mr. Stim left during the fall. - ' j 'i Warren McMinimee To! Enter Navy Warren . A. McMinimee, district attorney of Tillamook county, will report February 15 for active ser vice hi the navy, having accepted a commission as lieutenant, junior grade. Earl SnelL who will ap point a pro tem successor. ; A graduate of the Willamette law college here, McMinimee has been practicing law in Tillamook county for 15 years and has served as district attorney for seven years.
