Mrs. Arthur A. Rogers was hostess for a dinner party Wed nesday night at her Fir street home in compliment to her hus- band's birthday. Covers were placed for 11 , guests and bridge was in play during the evening, s Tbe table ' was covered with a green satin cloth and centered with, a sil- i ver bowl filled with ? holly flanked by white candles in sil- ; ver holders. The mantle was estive with an arrangement of red velvet, ribbon caught with a cluster of tiny gold balls. Dean and Mrs. Melvin Geist will preside at dinner tonight at their West Leffelle street rasi dence for a group of friends. Guests will be seated at small tables centered with holly and candles. The evening hours will . be spent informally. : Mr. and Mrs. H. Lawrence Lis ter were hosts for a buffet sup per party Sunday night at their home on Jefferson street. Dur ing the evening the guests lis-" tened to Christmas music. . Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Arens, Mr. and Mrs. Harland Pearson; Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. David Cameron and Mr. and Mrs. Lister. JEFFERSON Miss Velma "Worden," daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I I. Worden of Jefferson, and Pvt. Charles H. Richardson, of the army, son -of Mr, and Mrs. Frank Richardson of San Fran cisco, were married December 1, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Frank Walker. Mrs. L. L Wor den and Mrs. Walker witnessed the ceremony. Richardson was employed in the shipyard in San Francisco, previous to going in to the service and is now sta tioned at Camp Adair. The couple left Saturday night for San Francisco . for a visit at the home of his parents. Dur ing his ten day furlough Mrs. -Richardson ' win live in a house near Frank WeckQe's borne southwest of Jefferson. . Tomato aspic salad Pork. chops Apple sauce with spices Potato pancakes Broccoli ' Frozen berry shortcake - POTATO PANCAKES I cups grated raw potatoes Y cup milk 1 egg . - . X tablespoons flour Salt . . ; r Pepper ; ' " 1 tablespoon chopped onion Put the grated potatoes imme diately in the milk to help keep them from turning dark. Drain the milk from the potatoes. Add the well-beaten egg to the po tatoes . . . then the flour, and Just enough of the milk that was drained off to make a stiff bat ter. Season with salt, pepper, and. chopped onion. Drop by large spoonfuls into a' well greased, frying pan. Cook the pancakes 'until well -browned and crisp. Serve at once. ' Sir. and Bin. Homer T. Car penter, Miss Martha Carpenter . and Mis. Ransom Carpenter will be in Portland tonight to be the dinner guests of the Carpenter's son-in-law ; and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S, Gilbert. The occasion will mark the birthday anniversary ; of the Gilbert's son, .Frank, jr. ? Tagalongs Give Holiday Dinner Cooperation of the Salem YWCA with the local USO pro gram was demonstrated when members of the Tagalongs, USO servicemen's wives club, pre pared their Christmas dinner in the YWCAl kitchen, and served it in the decorated fireplace room which has been their meeting" place since . organiza tion. Chickens, were provided by the Chemeketa street USO and other supplies were provid ed by the members. ': "This is the first home-cooked meal we've eaten in weeks," was the comment of a number of army wives who have given up apartments in far-away towns to live in single rooms in Salem to be near their husbands. Fol lowing the dinner there was an exchange of gifts. Christmas Radio Program Tonight i The radio program of the Am erican Legion auxiliary will be a Christmas broadcast at 9:30 o'clock tonight Mrs. Fred Gahlsdorf will offer a Christmas prayer and the Jun ior American Legion auxiliary girls will relate the Christmas story in verse and carols. JEFFERSON Christmas day guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. O, Kester wHl be Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McKee, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McKee, and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. McKee. Teddy and Patsy, and Mrs. Louisa Batis, all of Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Phelps and two children will arrive Fri day for several days visit with Phelps parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Phelps. Judge " Fee is United States district judge for Oregon. He is a graduate of Whitman college and of Columbia university. He is a member of Beta Theta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa. . Programs will be pre sented in most of the schools for Thursday afternoon. Schools will reopen for class work on Monday morning, January 3. J. M.
