DkoI 4. 1343 'i -3 PAGE TEN Anderson Funeral Set - Native of Minnesota Dies at Her Home Wednesday WOODBURN Mrs. Frances Malik Lasell of Hubbard died at a Salem hospital Monday, after a four-day Illness. She was born October 2, 1893, in Czechoslovakia, coming to the United States and living. in Texas for several years, and from Texas she came to Ore gon 26 years ago. Surviving - are her widower, Chester Duncan Lasell of Hub bard; brother, Martin Malik, of Bryan, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Mary Koutney of Salem, and a brother and two sisters in Czechoslovakia. The rosary was recited at 8 o' clock Wednesday at the Ringo chapeL The funeral was held on Thursday morning after 9 o'clock requiem mass in the St. Agnes Catholic church at Hubbard. Bu- rial was in Mt Calvary cemetery, Portland. Anita Yetlve Anderson WOODBURN Anita Yetive Anderson, 41, died at her home on the Pacific highway near the north boundary of Woodburn, Wednes day. She came to Woodburn six years ago from Minnesota, where she was born January 19, 1902. Surviving her are her widower, Peter Edward Anderson; a son, Richard Sylvester Anderson, and m daughter, Caroline Anderson, feoth at home; a sister, Leona Mae Johnson of Woodburn, and three brothers and a sister living in Minnesota: Chalmers Ford, Mer ritt Pord, Walter Ford and Mable Burns. The funeral services will be held December 6 at 2 o'clock at the Ringo chapel; burial will be at Belle Passi. George Weber Digs Friday SILVERTON George Weber, -S2, died unexpectedly at his home on North Water street Friday morning. He had been suffering from a heart ailment for some lime. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Ekman Funeral home. Weber was born in New York n July 4, 1861. He came to Sil verton in 1920 where he worked at his carpentry trade until he re tired because of his health a few years ago. , Survivors are the widow, Louise; children, Gertrude Keith of Salinas, Calif., Margert Weber, Pearl Kemper and Katherine Hawes of Silverton; Carl Weber f Hillsboro, Ernest of Portland, Robert Weber and Mrs. Ruth Kpt tek of Salem, George Weber of Scio, Florence Torbert of New berg, ND, and Marian Weber, RN, of Sacramento, Calif. Fox Valley Family Visits FOX VALLEY James Stock well has been seriously ill at his iiome since Tuesday, when he suf fered a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Stockwell has not been in good health for some time. Miss Anna Mae Davis of Salem was a Monday visitor at the Hugh Johnston home. Don Thayer, who is stationed at an army camp in Texas, is visit ing here with his two sisters and their families. He came Monday and is leaving for Reedsport to visit his parents a few days before returning. He had a 15-day fur lough, but it takes nearly half of the time to come and go 'back to his station. Mrs. Rose Thayer and son Gary of Stayton came Tuesday to spend a few days visiting at the Hugh Johnston home. George Berry helped Jack John ston butcher Wednesday. Wayne Smith visited at the Al bert Julian home Wednesday. Silverton School Gets ' New Man as Principal SILVERTON Floyd Decker, 37, from Orangeville, Idaho, ar rived this week to take over the work of Ivan Luman, principal of the grade school building. Mr. Lu nan resign ea a lew weeks ago because of ill health and is now t Seneca, Ore., his former home. Mr. Decker is a graduate of the University of Idaho, is married .and has two children. His other leg was bruised and the ankle sprained. The trip which he was preparing to make into Portland was to have been his last trip for the Wright Truck line, as he had planned to take employment with the Felix Wright Truck line the following day. Mrs. Wourms Funeral Held Stayton Native Dies In Salem Hospital; -Burial in Lone Oak STAYTON Mrs. Ada Wourms was laid to rest Thursday after funeral services which were held at the Weddle chapel. Rev. Wil lard i Buckner officiating. Mrs. Wourms died Monday at a Salem hospital after several months of failing health due to heart trou ble. ; Ada Cornish was born June 24, 1886 on a farm east of Stayton, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Cornish. She attended Oak-glen school and was later married to Jake Wourms, farmer and but cher. He died in 193S. About October 1 Mrs. Wourms went to Salem to make her home with her daughter. Her whole life had been lived near Stayton. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marie Crandall of Salem; two sis ters, Mrs. Mabel Knight of Stay ton and Mrs. Alice Rabens of Sil verton. A brother, Andy Cornish; died three years ago. Pallbearers -were Alva Schmitt, Ernest Denny, Adrien Hermens, George Glover, A. M. Kendrick and Ed Doerfler. Mrs. Gweneth Spaniol and Mrs. Kathryn Weddle sang a duet. Burial was in Lone Oak ceme tery beside the grave of her hus band. Skirvin Rites Are Saturday SILVERTON Funeral serv ices will be held Saturday at Z o'clock from the Memorial chapel of the Ekman funeral home for Mrs. Mary Belle Skirvin, 76, who died at Yakima Monday. She had lived there for 22 years. Edwin Hamre will be the reader and burial will be at Miller cemetery. Mrs. Skrivin was born at Glad- tidings on July 24, 1867 and until she moved to Yakima, had lived in the Marquam and Monitor dis trict all her life. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Doris L. Allen of Yakima; a grandson, Roger Dewey Allen in the navy; brothers, Delmar Rid ings of Marysville, Montana; Roy Ridings of Marquam; John and Tom Ridings of Molalla; sisters, Mrs. Anna Hamond of Molalla; Mrs. Carrie Armes of Filer. Ida ho; Mrs. Kate Marquam of Port land and Mrs. Onah Bentley of Marquam. Visits Sister In Corvallis SMITHFIELD Mrs. Zula Simpson is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. H. C. Miss Helen Pankratz of West Salem and Edwin Buller of La pine were Friday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Edi- ger. Mr., and Mrs. Frank A. Wilson of the Presbyterian church will be the guest speaker morning and evening at First Presbyterian church Sunday. He was a resident of Ichow, China, a community of 75,000 located between the coast and the Shanghai-Peiping rail road, and mid-way between those two cities in Shantung province. He and his family served a con stituency of between three and five million people and watched the transformation of the city from a peaceful, old fashioned village to a spot of ruin and suf fering during the Sino-Japanese war. He remained for three years to help carry on the American Chinese relief program. The speaker is a graduate of Occiden tal college, Princeton Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary. At the Sunday morning hour his subject is "Unrationed Eter nals." The chorus choir under the direction of Virginia Ward Elliott will sing, "Hear Us O Father." The morning soloist, Bettiellen Payne, will sing "Trust Ye In the Lord" (Fisher). At the 7:30 evening hour Vir ginia Ward Elliott will be the so loist singing "Seek Ye the Truth" (Ellis). "-Randle returned missionary from uuna, ana a member of the Calvary Baptist church, will bring the commun ion meditation at the morning service Sunday. Rev. Randle be came a charter member of Cal vary church after his return from China and was pastor of the Baptist church at Cottage Grove. The senior choir, the Calvary Trumpeters, and the ensemble and other musical organizations of Calvary will present an hour of sacred music at Camp Adair Sun day afternoon. This concert will be presented in chapel No. 5, which is in charge of Chaplain Kenneth A. Nelson, a member of Calvary church. The Friesen quartet of Salem will accompany the group. The newly organized Men's Fellowship of Calvary church will hold its monthly meeting Tues day evening, December 7. Pre ceding the meeting dinner will be served. Beside the regular busi ness meeting members will have the privilege of hearing Rev. Eric A. Johnson, pastor of the Evangelistic Tabernacle, a former missionary to the Belgian Congo. The Men's Fellowship will be hosts to the high school class of boys of which Dr. Hugh A. Dowd is the teacher. Service Men Have Meeting The newly organized Service Men's Gospel team will hold two services Sunday, one at the Church of God, located at Cottage and Hood streets, from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and another at the Free Methodist church. Market and North Winter streets, from 7:30 to 9. They have .scheduled Sunday evening services for a month in advance in the various Salem churches. The jfroup is composed of ser vice men from all sections of the country, and representing a dozen different denominations. Several members of the group have had active service on foreign soil. The program consists primarily of tes timonies from each member of the group, interspersed with mu sical numbers by the quartet and the bass soloist, Seaman Clarence Dahl, who is now attending Wil lamette university. The service is concluded by a short message and an illustrated chalk drawing with lighting effects. Sacrifice Sunday Will Be Observed A Sunday of sacrifice is to be observed by the First Baptist church December 5. Members are planning to contribute their share toward the World N Emergency Fund at this time. The money is to be used for work with service men and for reconstruction and emergency work at home : and abroad. Baptists are giving $1,500,000, and Oregon's quota Is $22,500. The First Baptist church's share is $650. This sum will be ' collected at the communion service. : In the afternoon : at 4:30 the young people will have a service in the form of an organ recital and vespers conducted by the Guild Girls.
