Oregon, Sunday Morning, October 17, .843 : Rye,OatsRally As Trade Ends Wheat, Barley Up " Fractions by Close Of Market Session By WILLIAM FERRIS CHICAGO, Oct H-W-A " brisk rally In rye and oats short It before the close gave grains a strong finish today.) Previously the market had been . sluggish and sliehtly lower. W be a t and '""barley also advanced toward the finish, turning early! losses Into . minor gains. :.' - - - -f . ' At the close wheat was higher, December $1.55tt-, . May $1.53, rye was up -lV4, . December $1.13-1.13, oats were ' ahead and barley was - higher. ' . . j Milling concerns supported ' wheat at the outset,! but most of the buying was by distillery Jn terests. Distillers have been very active in the cash market 1 this week, taking an estimated 4,000,- ",000 bushels. Mills,, with ceilings oh their finished product, are re ceiving strong competition , from distillers. Shipping sales out' ' of this market today totaled 50,000 bushels. ' Further proof of the relatively ' small amount of wheat going into - the government loan was given - by a Commodity Credit corpor ation report that through October 9 it had made loans on 85,650,261 : bushels of 1943 wheat. On the same date last year loans had been made on 228,829,563 bushels. This indicates " that" there is considerable "free" wheat' In the - country, traders said, but reports .disclose that farmers are not mar . keting the grain in heavy quanti ties. The food distribution admin ' istration announced ; purchase of 8,522,000 pounds of enriched "wheat flour for shipment under lend-lease terms. Swegle Man, Sister Visit After 23 Years SWEGLE Mrs. Mable Jones of Los Angeles, Calif, was a guest this past week at the home of Mr, and- Mrs. Ralph Becker. Mrs. Jones is the sister of Mr. Becker and the second sister to visit him this summer that he had not seen for 23 'years. Mrs. Jones has gone to Seattle to see other sisters and her father.
