PAGE FOUHTEEZI Vheat Advance Comes to Halt Break in Oats Upsets Bread Cereal as "Rye Follows Down Trend By WILLIAM FERRIS CHICAGO, Sept. Z(X(Ph-Wheat made an effort to extend its ad vance today. Going" to new highs since early July on aggressive mill buying . at4 the outset, but profit taking eventually proved too much for . the market and . final prices were of! fractionally from yester day's close. ' The bread cereal was unsettled by a break in oats -which at one time extended to almost 2 cents. A slight rally developed in this grain before the close, but the un dertone remained weak. Except for choice quality, cash oats were under pressure. Rye tended to fol low wheat and oats, ending about a rent lower. At the close wheat was lower, December $1.51-1.51, May ; 5 1,51-, oats were- off -l Va, December 76-, and rye was down -l, December $1.08 . Traders werenot inclined to follow the early upturn in wheat They pointed out that this week's advance might bring out more wheat stored on farms, and, in ad 1 dition, the commodity credit- cor poration was reported to be im porting fairly large quantities of the bread cereal from Canada. With prices above parity, selling came into the oats pit on the be lief increased marketings of corn will diminish the demand for oats by feed manufacturers. Corn book ings totaled 70,000 bushels, less than expected but still well above purchases of a week or so ago. It was reported 4000 additional box cars had been moved to the northwest to haul grain! Rye, like oats, was under, the in fluence of the expanding corn movement Potential demand for rye as a livestock feed was seen as declining. Weather over most of the corn belt was favorable, and traders pointed out that each day of favorable weather removes an additional quantity of corn from danger of frost Paralysis Scare Phony - SCIO. - Rumor of infantile paralysis in Scio a few days ago seems to have been without foun dation, as both local physicians have stated they have seen no evi dence of the disease.
