. Indications the C o mm odlty

Purchases of wheat by the CCC
now total around 4,000,000 bush

and the gency reportedly is en

Minneapolis, Omaha and Kansas

this wheat will be utilized to aug

stocks. ' '
The Modern Miller, a trade pub
lication, asserted the govern
ment's . program of using wheat
for feed "is meeting with unusual
success and latest estimates sug
gest that 300,000,000 bushels may
be fed .. this year, or 50,000,000
bushels more than anticipated a
short time ago."

i By. the Associated Press . ,
Oregon hops .made, good prog
ress under favorable weather con
ditions during the week ending
August 4, but trading was virtu
ally at a standstill, the War Food
administration : reported Friday.
If any contracts were written
they ; were not reported, and it
was ? evident, WFA said, that
growers were 'awaiting ; further
crop and market developments be
fore entering Into 'morecommit
ments. Most growers have ' con
tracted at least a portion of the
1943 'crop on the basis of ceiling
prices at the time, of delivery or
on December 31. ; .
IJght rains at week's end aided
crop growth, -particularly in ? up
land regions. The crop was i re
ported unusually free of mildew
and other infestations.
Growers still attempted to sign
pickers fer, the early varieties as
harvest time neared.
