IS43 ;Fiim a uncial Grain Pit Prices Sway "VTheat Lower, Oats Unchanged, Rye Takes Slump , Chicago, July 8.-(iipwn a session of wide price movements and rapid changes in trend, grains closed Thursday mixed. "Wheat was lower, oats were about un changed and rye was down al most a cent in the May contract and up more than a cent in the September contract. Trading was : heavy. ' The market took its cue from Washington, where legislative de velopments on corn ceilings and subsidies followed one another in rapid-fire succession as congress prepared to recess until next Sep tember. Traders were left groggy In an attempt to follow the Wash ington news and paid no atten tion to crop reports. - - At : the close wheat was Vt- lower, July $1.47Ji-; Septem ber ?1.48Vi-; bats were low er to Yt higher, July 71. and , rye was lower to ???? higher, July $1.13. - The market soared higher in response to senate passage late Wednesday of a measure to in- . crease the corn ceiling from $1.08 to $1.40 a bushel. In the first two hours oats advanced more than a cent,' wheat jumped 2 cents and rye spurted as much as 4 cents to new i seasonal peaks. Commission houses bought heavily and profit-taking was absrobed without trouble. An additional bullish stimulus during this period was the action f the food distribution adminis tration in suspending the export wheat and flour subsidy program. This was taken as another indica tion of the need to keep all grains in this country to meet feeding demands for livestock and poul try.
