Fiea.imcial Fairta Tho OREGON STATESMAN, Salem. Owjon. Tuesday Morning. June 1. IS 43 PAGE TEN Notck'inTax Bill Smooths Out Inequity ' 'WASHINGTON, May 31 -JP) A "Notch provision for the pro tection of income taxpayers we Ing the. government slightly more than $50 was explained Saturday in a joint senate-house conference committee's report on the pending pay-as-you-go tax collection bilL To put taxpayers on a current basis, the bill provides for can cellation of 75 per cent of the 1942 or 1943 income tax liability (whichever is smaler) of the amount is more than $50, and for complete cancellation of the less er year's tax if $50 or less. How ever, it -was foreseen that this would result in inequities in cases where the liability was Just above $50. For example, a man owing $52 would have to pay 25 per cent of it over the next two years, r $13. KC: To eliminate the difficulty, the conferees provided that the ad ditional tax to be paid shall be 25 per cent of the lesser year's tax, or the excess of , the tax liability over $50. The $52 man, then, would have to pay only $2 additional. -: The measure is expected to be called up for final approval next week, first in the house,, then in the senate. ..ii Marine Flier Gets 2 Zeros, Has 4 Crashes GUADALCANAL, May 6- (De layed ) HPV-The aerial bookkeep ing of Tirst Lieut.
