February .! 153 School, Farm Leaders Discuss ' Teacners' Bill DALLAS At a meeting of school and agricultural leaders in the Dallas Junior high school Monday night, those attending dis cussed problems of taxation af fecting both farmers and teachers. Lyle Thomas, former Polk county representative to the legislature, presided over the joint meeting. The teachers bill, providing for division among school district of the state of income tax collections in excess of $7,750,000, came in for consideration with the group tak ing a stand against repeal of the law. enacted by the people and op posing reduction of the income tax because : such . action would defeat the purpose of the law as enacted. Attending and taking part in the teacher's discussion were Ammon Grice, state president of the Tar mers' Union; L. H. McBee, county president of the Farmers Union; J. P. Smart, president Orchard Heights ' Farmers t Union; W. J. Stockholm, master of the Mon mouth grange; Donald Gabbert, member of OSTA legislative com mittee; Lyle Thomas, president of the Polk county OSTA; Henrietta Wotfery delegate of the Polk coun ty OSTA; Mr. Phelps, vice presi dent of the Polk county division OSTA; Josiah Wills, Polk county school superintendent; Mr. Sprague, Independence training school. - Lustoffs Visit j Brothers, Seek- j Farm in Oregon j , SWEGLE. Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Lustoff and two children jar rived in Salem Monday from pes Moines, Iowa. They are visiting in the homes of Mrs. Lustoffs broth ers, Henry Van Loh.of Swegle district and John of south Salem. They have sold their Iowa farm and plan on making their home in Oregon. They were allowed gaso line to make the trip by auto. Mrs. Lester Bolton Jeft Satur day for a two-weeks visit with her husband in government work at Camp Orb south of San Francisco.
