Oc;c-r IS, Reception Planned Tonight Scheduled for the fifth day in National Business Women's week, October 15, is the "read iness in action" reception of the i Salem Business and Professional Women's club. The reception to night will be held at the YWCA from eight until ten o'clock. Miss Ruth Moore and her as sistants, Miss Bessie Hammer and Mrs. Esther Little announce their co-hostesses as ready to Join in the honors accorded the members and officers of com pany F, Oregon Women's Ambu-i lance corps. The members of the . corps will attend r the reception In uniform, in keeping with the national theme of the week, "Women's Work in Jhe War." Representatives and -friends of , service clubs, patriotic organiza tions of women have been invit ed to share with the Salem club in honoring the corps. - ; . Greeting guests at the door,' Mrs. William Lin foot, chairman of the public relations commit tee, will guide guests to the re ceiving line in which Miss Car olyn Wilson, general chairman f the week, will present other officers of the club: Miss Helen Fletcher, president; Miss Doro thy Cornelius, first vice-president; Miss Edna McElhaney corresponding secretary of the state federation and second vice president of the Salem club; Miss Ruth-" Moore, chairman of the reception, and ' Miss Hilda " Fries, corresponding secretary. '.' j- Miss Eleanor Stephens reports a number of fascinating books written by women war corres pondents or by women about the war which are listed and in cluded in a display on the sec ond floor of the state library op-, posite the card catalogue. The display and list of books have been arranged as part of the cel ebration of Business Women's week. Mr. Hugh Morrow, of the Salem city library, has also co operated in. arranging books of interest to women on the dis play shelves. Zielinski at St Marys church Saturday, was Mrs. Hoxsey Borden of Olym pia, Washington, who arrived Sunday. - Captain Borden will Join her the latter part of the week. Dally of Oakland, at a ceremony Sat urday afternoon in a chapel at Camp Adair. Those present in cluded the mothers of the young couple; also Mr. and Mrs. Paul Riley of Monmouth. After a brief wedding trip, Lieut Dally ' and his bride will occupy an apartment , at the Riley home here. FALLS CITY Miss Myrtle Jean Reeves and Delmer E. Fer guson were married October 3rd at San Diego, Calif. They were accompanied by the bride's two brothers, Henry, and Clifford Reeves. Arnold home a short distance west of Scio Sun day afternoon, on the occasion of the golden wedding anniver sary of the pioneer couple, both of whom were reared in the Scio area. Also present were 17 persons who attended the wedding: Mrs. Nancy Arnold, S. G. Miller, J. E. Arnold, Mrs. Roe Shelton, Ethel G. Mr. Arnold is the youngest of six sons in his family and the fifth to have observed the 50th wedding anniversary. Four members of Mrs; Arnold's fam ily likewise have had golden wedding observances. In the center of a large table was the three-tier decorated wedding cake baked by the Arn olds' daughter, Mrs. Frank Senz. Room decorations were yellow and gold, flowers being chrysan themums and marigolds. Plans were made to have a tea honoring mothers of all freshman students the latter part of October. U. of O. Mothers will sponsor one day a month at the USO canteen, it was decided. Vt cup sliced onions Mix together beef, crumbs, seasonings, egg and cream. Shape into cakes about k inch thick. Roll in flour and brown quickly on both sides in 4 table spoons fat heated in frying pan. Cover and cook through for 8 minutes. Spread -half with the sauce " and onions and cover with rest of cakes.
