Carte, to Mr. Dean Trum bo, son of Mr. Marcus Trumbo, will te solemnized this afternoon it 4 o'clock in the First Congre gational church. Rev.' Robert Hutchinson will officiate. The Church will be decorated with (ink and white gladioluses. The bride, given in marriage by her father, has chosen a wool crepe suit of salute blue and navy accessories. Her corsage wfll be a white orchid. ' ' Miss Margaret Earle will be her sister's maid of honor, and will wear a brown . wool suit with matching accessories and ;- corsage of Talisman roses. Mr. Jack Walker will be best man and Sam Earle, jr., will light the tapers. Ushers will be Mr. Norman Hindes and Mr. -Peter Saminau. 'Miss Carolyn Brown will sing -At Dawning" and "Until" and Mrs. Kenneth Rich will play the organ. Mrs. Earle has chosen a blue sDk crepe redingote for her daughter's wedding. Mrs. Maude Confer of Portland, aunt of the groom, will be in blue. Both win wear a gardenia corsage. Following the ceremony, a re ception will be held in the ' church parlors. Mrs. Ray Pfister will cut the cake and Mrs. R. R. Boardman the Ices. Coffee' will be served by Mrs. Mark Trumbo i of Portland. The bride has asked the fol lowing girls to serve: Miss Jean Moore, Miss Muriel Lindstrom, Miss Harriet Crawford and Mrs. , Ewald Franz. Miss Betty Anun sen will pass the guest book. The young couple will go on a wedding trip to California and Mexico. The bride attended Willamette university and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. The groom, a graduate of Willamette, is in business in Hubbard. They will live in Portland. Meeting Ends With Picnic i The Florence Vail Missionary society of the Calvary Baptist church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Roen Friday aft ernoon. Mrs. D. R. Peterson, president, conducted the busi ness meeting. Mrs. Jend Svinth and Mrs. W. Meeker gave reports on the house party at Arrah Wanna. At 6:30 the ladies entertained their husbands and families at a no-host dinner on the lawn. Six- tr guests were present Th"e" Sterling and Arnica guild girls presented a play and led the de votions. Miss Jean Barham Musicians to Be Heard Mary Schultz Duncan, Salem violinist and Maude Ross Sardan. Portland pianist, are scheduled to present a IS minute program today on KOIN at 5:30 o'clock. This is one of the Portland School of Music's (formerly H ' lison White) regular radio pro grams. Both Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Sardan are on the school faculty. Party Plans For Week 1 A swimming party at Olinger playground pool at 8 o'clock Monday night and another danct at the fairgrounds Wednesday night are on the week's calendar for Junior Hostesses and army men stationed in the Salem area. Members of the hostess group planning to attend the Monday . night swim are to registerd at USO-Hostess league hcadquar . ten so that party arrangements - may be made accordingly. Miss Beth Siewert aad Miss Trances Kells are spending the weekend on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, as the guests of Miss Mary ELiza beth Kells. Saturday night they attended the Showboat theatre and saw their hostess play the part of the Fairy Princess in "Midsummer Night's Dream." Mrs. Alvin Stewart, will be - hostess on Tuesday at her home, 200 Culver street, to members of the Missouri Ladies auxiliary. A covere ddis luncheon wilLbe served at 1 o'clock. The American War Mothers are planning a covered dish luncheon at the home of Mrs. ' ! He expects to spend this year in Oregon. .--- Her Betrothal Told ... MISS Patricia Scott, whose parents. Dr. and Mrs. O. L. Scott, art announcing her betrothal to Mr. William C. Young of Portland, son of Mr. Frank W. Young of Pasco. Washington. Miss Scott attended school in Salem and later business college and Is now with the public utilities com- mission. Mr. Young attended school in Washington ancL graduated from Cheney Normal at Cheney, Washington He is a graduate of engineering from the University of Washington and is now with the Alaska highway com mission. No date has been set far the wedding. JHook Mo.. but . . . boys can't be fooled on cookies, even soldier boys. It's rumored that some store variety found their way into the cookie jar, a new fixture at the USOflostess league office, and patronage fell off. Can't blame the hostesses, mere's a limit to every wom an's culinary endurance, but more jsfomen should bring cookies to the office at the Senator hotel. It's not too big a service to offer. s . History repeats . . . The minister, Rev. W. S. Gordon of Portland, who married Jeanette London and Ensign Thomas Bruce Blair on August 2, also married the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray London that many years ago, her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Varley, and her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. DePew. Her wedding only missed her cousin's fifth anniversary by a day. But a marrytn' person ... is Robert Hutchinson for sure. Look how he has been spending his spare time this weekend. like Salem ... A couple on their way home from Portland picked up some soldiers last weekend en route from Ft Lewis, "home." Upon inquiry the couple found that the soldiers had been stationed here and came back weekends because it seemed like home. They were complimentary to 2 r rf A SCENE from "High Tor" play being given at Waller hall Monday night by students ot summer school drama classes at Willamette university. The play was presented on Saturday night fre for soldiers. Funds from Monday's performance wiil go to the USO. Left to right the players are: Arnold Hardman, Corydon Blodgett, Maynard Eye stone, Hal Adams and Lenore Myers. Family Party in " Mountains A triple birthday party is be ing given this weekend-at the Edwards-Harland summer place Anniversaries of Mrs. E. V. Har land Mrs. M. E. Edawrds and Mr. Roy Harland are to be cele brated. Besides these three couples, Mr. and Mrs. Norval Edwards and son Buzzy, Marilyn and Carol Harland will be present. After the bawl . . . Society and sports are in close proximity in a newspaper of fice, although far removed shall we say estheuccdly. Between bridal write-ups all week we've seen the tide rise and ebb in the sports department. All week it's been, "convict will pitch ... huge crowds . . . benefit games ... thousands of dollars . . . rah rah . . . bigger crowds ... national excitement" then, "lifer can't pitch . . . judge says no . . . busted bubble . . . The Eastern Star social after noon club will meet at 10 o'clock on Tuesday lor an all-day sew -for the Red Cross. A no-host luncheon will be served at noon. Ryer of Berkeley, became the bride of Mr. William Butte, son of M. and Mrs. Christopher:; Butte at a; ceremony in the John Gardner home at 8 o'clock August 7. Rev. Robert Hutchinson officiated at the ceremony. The Gard ners are the groom's grandparents. , - : The bride's white satin dress was made with low waistline and sweetheart neck. Self-cover ed buttons were the trim and her veil was fingertip length. She carried a colonial nosegay of orchids and mixed spring flowers. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. L. M, Ryer. 1 The maid of honor, Miss Betty Krebs, wore a powder blue mar quisette dress made with low waist. Her flowers were gar denias. The best man was Mr. -James Butte, brother of the groom. Miss Jean Marie Gardner played the wedding marches. Miss Beverly Williams and Miss Nancy Gardner were flower girls. Mrs. Ryer wore a yellow sum mer print for. her daughter's .wedding and with it she wore black accessories. ' Mrs. Butte's, dress was dusty rose, and she, too, wore black accessories. At the reception which fol lowed the wedding. Miss Muriel Smith, Miss Jeanne Donaldson and Miss Dorothy Cooke win serve and Mrs. John Sundin cut the cake. . When the bride and groom left on their wedding trip to the Oregon beaches, the new Mrs. Butte was wearing a powder blue faille dressmaker suit with white accessories and a white orchid corsage. Both Mr. and Mrs. Butte are graduates of Salem high school and he attended OSC. He is now with the' Willamette Iron and Steel company. They will live in Salem. Church Women To Meet The Women's missionary .so ciety of the First Presbyterian church will meet on Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Siegmund on the Garden road. The special board meeting is scheduled for 1:30 o'clock and the meeting for 2 pjn. All interested women are Invited. The meeting will be held out doors. Mrs. J. J. Nunn win be the leader, Mrs. D. B. KleiHege wul sing and Mrs. T. JL Mac kenzie wul lead devotions. Th hostess committee includes Mrs. Mrs. Joseph Benner and Mrs. Kleihege. Daughters to Have Session The Catholic Daughter! of America will hold their August meeting at. the home of Mrs. Joe McCormick at 2185 Myrtle avenue on August 12 at 7 o'clock with a no-host picnic. Members are asked to bring their own table service. The Deaeeaess Heapital aax- Oiary will hold a no-host lunch eon at Olinger field at 1 o'clock Monday- afternoon. The regular business session will begin at 2 o'clock. The picnic is held to celebrate the completion of the payments on a dishwashing ma chine purchased for the hospital. Leslie Miss Booth Weds; Home Rites The double ring ceremony was used at the wedding of Miss Kathleen Booth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C L. Booth of Enter prise, and Mr. George Robin son, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Robinson of Malin, on Friday night Rev. W. Irvin Williams officiated at the wedding which took place at the Hazel avenue home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Wyatt. The day was also the 25th wedding anniversary of the bride's parents. The bride entered the room on the arm of her father. She wore a suit of beige wool, for which she chose black acces sories. Her corsage was of or chids. Her attendant. Mrs. Donald Tower, also wore a biege suit with black accessories and her shoulder was a corsage of salmon pink gladioluses. Mr. Calvin Kent was best man for Mr. Robinson. Gordon Wyatt lighted the candles. The bride's aunt, Mrs. Robert Wyatt, sang "At Dawning" and was accompanied by Miss Mari lyn Wyatt For her daughter's wedding. Mrs. Booth wore a navy blue and white redingote and a cor sage of gardenias. Mrs. Robin son chose a model of blue and wore gardenias. A reception followed the wed ding. The bride's sister, Miss Margaret Booth of Enterprise poured, and Miss Elizabeth Rob inson cut the cake. Breakfast Is Friday Mrs. A. A. Siewert was hostess ' on Friday morning for a break fast served in the patio to mem bers' of her club. Additional guests were Mrs. Howard Pick ett and Miss Frances Marlotte, sister of Mrs. H. G. Smith who is visiting here. Members of the club are Mrs. Roy Hewitt, Mrs. Waldo Mills, Mrs. C. W. Parker, Mrs. H. G. Smith. Mrs. A. A. Siewert, Mrs. Roy Mills, Mrs. Leon Johnson and Mrs. Robert Craig. Girl Scouts Organize Girl Scout troop 1 met with their scout cornmittee Tuesday night at the Christian and Mis sionary Alliance church to dis- cuss rules for troop conduct and to plan a roller skating party to be held August 20. This is the only troop in Sa lem at the present time and the girls are just beginning to get their troop organized. Mrs. Rose Yates is the leader and the girls chose officers as follows: Doris Gear hard, senior patrol leader; Ruth Ray, patrol leader; Jean Deas, troop scribe; George Wal ling, troop treasurer. .
