Normal Starts Second Term MONMOUTH Friday, July 10, marked the end of the first five weeks of the accelerated summer school session at Oregon College of Education. The second term begins Monday, July 13, and ends August 14. Robert Laxson, who has been completing work for his master's degree in music at the University of Idaho, will be here to teach classes this term. Quilting Party Given by Group AMITY The Sisterhood of the Christian church held an all day quilting and sewing meeting last Week. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon. During the afternoon a shower was given for Mrs. Homery Kirkwood, who re ceived many dainty gifts. For the past year Denyer has been -electrical engineer of the General Electric . company and Stationed in New York. He was recently transferred to the coast with headquarters , in ' Portland. En route here with his family, Russell Denyer. was detained at the Spokane office for ten days but is expected to join his family in Turner over the weekend. They will live in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. John Mickey and son,, uonaia wayne, oi near Glendale. Calif- are spending a week's vacation in Turner with Mrs, "Mickey's brother and fam ily, the Jack LaRonts, and at Lin coln , with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mickey. Robert Mickey, who is also em ployed at the Lockheed aircraft company, accompanied the visi tors to Oregon. . All formerly re sided in the Turner community and are being greeted by their many friends. The regular meeting of the Turner WCTU was held Wednes day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Nellie Gunning, The group com pleted its drive for funds for the Children's farm home at Corval lis, with $45.70 donated for the home. Mrs. M. B. Madden conducted the devotional service. The Aug ust meeting will be held at the Spiers home. A mission and tem perance program will be given by Mrs. M. B. Madden, director of that department. Floyd W. Hutchens of Corvallis visited Thursday with his mother, Mrs. N. W. Hutchens. He is to be named James Calvin. Mrs. Hoxsey was Evelyn Cain, formerly of Mission Bottom. Mr. and Mrs. C.C Russell and Mrs. Lola Patterson have received word that a daughter, Kay Marie, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Webb Traglio in Portland June 25. Mrs Traglio was Lorraine Russell, a granddaughter of the Russell's and Mrs. Patterson. Mrs. Patterson left Sunday for Aurora where she will spend the summer with her. daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ward C. Russell. Swegle Vacation School Is Opened SWEGLE The Swegle vaca tion bible school Monday began a five-day reunion under the lead ership of Rev. Jesse Baker, dis trict missionary for the American Union Bible School association. Last year the school was held with Middle Grove, but this year each district has its own school Mr. Baker has has six teachers busy with these schools this sum mer. Mrs. Dan Sherman, Salem, will be teacher at Swegle with some local help. All young people are invited to attend. ' . Fox Valley Folk Called to Salem , .. ...... .. . The parking on North Water street in the. business district has been changed from diagonal to parallel parking by the city. This change complies with a request for the same since the street is considered a part of the state sec ondary highway system.
