Statesman Berry Harvest Nearing Peak The peak of the strawberry harvest is expected to be reached about Wednesday or Thursday of next week. This was the opinion expressed by local canners Friday and also by persons visiting the fields Friday afternoon. The berries in the Silverton country are not ripe yet but look fine for the stage of their devel opment, returning Salem men re ported Friday. M., in the County Court Room in the Marion County Court House as the time and place of hearing on the matter of formation of such rural fire protection district. Said order further directed the Clerk of said Court to publish the notice of intention of such Court to form such rural fire protection district, and did desig nate The Oregon Statesman, a newspaper of general circulation published in said Marion County and circulated in said proposed district, said notice to be pub lished in said newspaper once a week for two successive weeks prior to the time fixed for said hearing. Tracy was hostess for a miscellaneous shower Wed nesday night at her home in compliment to Miss Patricia Tschauner, bride-elect of Mr, Kenneth Tracy. The couple will be married this morning at SL Joseph's Catholic church. The table centerpiece was of pink rosebuds and white deut chia in a crystal bowl flanked by white tapers. Auxiliary Unit Names Officers Forty members of the Marine Corps league and auxiliary en joyed a covered dish dinner at the VFW hall Thursday, and lat er the auxiliary held the regular business meeting. Mr. L. L. Pittinger, comman dant of the Salem detachment, presented the auxiliary with a myrtle wood .gavel. Mrs. Fannie McCall, chairman of the junior activities, reported that the juniors have been busy on their salvage committee. The charter of the auxiliary will be closed June 15, 1942. and any eligible members wishing to join as charter members should get in touch with Miss Golda Whee ler, phone 3010, before that date. The auxiliary unit elected the following staff of officers: Mrs. Eva M. Rush, president; Mrs. Eva Flax, sr., vice-president; Mrs. Fannie McCall, junior vice president; Mrs. Helen Noyes, chaplain; Mrs. Bertha Pittinger, judge advocate; Mrs. Margaret Millett, historian; Mrs. Macelle Warren, treasurer; Mrs. Marie Baker, guard; Miss Golda Whee ler, secretary; Mrs. Ora Fur lough, musician; Miss Sana Mil lett, captain of the guards; Mrs. Rita Wolfe, color guard. The auxiliary unit will be in stituted and officers installed on July 9 by the Salem detachment MCL, Mr. L. L. Pittinger, com mandant, in charge of the ritual istic work. Mrs. F. H. (homemade) MONDAY Lettuce, Thousand Island dressing Swiss steak Fresh tomato sauce Buttered cauliflower Lemon pie ASPARAGUS SOUFFLE 4 tablespoons butter 4 tablespoons flour 14 cups milk teaspoon salt Yi teaspoon paprika teaspoon celery salt 1 teaspoon finely chopped parsley teasDoon finely chopoed onions 2 cups cooked asparagus Vi cup diced celery 3 egg yolks 3 egg whites, beaten Melt butter and add flour. Blend and pour in milk and seasonings. Cook slowly, stirring contstantly, until thick and creamy. Beat well, add yolks, beat again and lightly fold in rest of ingredients. Pour into buttered baking dish. Bake 50 minutes in pan hot water In moderate oven (350 degrees). EGG SAUCE 16 cups white sauce 2 hard-cooked eggs, diced 1 teaspoon chopped parsley Yt cup sliced pimientos or cooked green peppers Y teaspoon paprika Mix, cook slowly 3 minutes and serve poured over top of souffle, or pass in a small dish.
