Oregon's industrial payroll during the first three months of the war reached an all-time high of $62,122,601, compared to $43,733,096, during the corresponding period a year ago, figures released bx the state industrial accident corruxdssion Tuesday disclosed. The figures - cover the period I December 1 to March 1. Multnomah county, where the bulk . of the state's industrial plants are located, had a total payroll of $31,661,399 during the three months. The industrial pay roll In Multnomah county during the three months a year ago was $17,250,730. The state's February payroll S20.172.019, aa increase of .$6,000,000 over the same month la 1941, while Multnomah coun ty's payroll totaled $11,119,420, a rain of approximately 100 per cent. Toland, above, reports that a survey of 15 companies handling naval con tracts had shown salaries and bonuses of their officials in 1941 ranged from 22 to 1,331 per cent above that of 1934. The Smith bin would outlaw the closed shop for the duration, limit war profits to 6 per cent and suspend the 40 hour work week. The treasury opposes the 6 per cent proposal and both President Roosevelt and War Production Chief Donald Nelson oppose suspension of the 40-hour work week.
