In addition one of them re ceived the coveted county agent trophy as the most outstanding 4H - club member in the county among all divisions. Evelyn Wells, Rickreall, was Judged the outstanding 4H club member in the county during the past year based on her out- " standing success in sheep club work. Evelyn whose address has been Rickreall until recently, when she moved with her fam- ' lly to Yamhill county, was the highest scoring Hampshire sheep club member at the state fair and was awarded a pursebred lamb by the famous Foothills Farms at Carlton. At the Pacific International she exhibited the grand champion lamb which sold for the record price of $3.50 per pound, a dollar higher than any such previous sale. In addition to winning the county agent's trophy she was awarded the Dallas chamber of commerce trophy for sheep club member. Bringing additional glory to the Wells family, Maurine, a sister of Evelyn, received the cup for be ing the outstanding girl in cook ing club work in the county. Maurine's winnings at the county and state fairs placed her at the head of this division. The Wells family has been an outstanding family in club work The OREGON STATESMAN. SALEM, Oregon. Dealings and prices faltered af ter a fast get-away but bidding was resumed in the final hour. A little profit taking shaved ex treme advances at the close but many leaders emerged at or near the day's top. The afternoon bulge came in the wake of the war vote in congress against the axis powers. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks ended with a net gain of .5 of a point at 37.1, the first upturn after three declining ses sions. Transfers amounted to 1, 400,890 shares compared with 2, 088,320 the day before. It was the first day this week in which the turnover fell under the 2,000,000 mark. American Telephone dipped to a new 1941 bottom, then turned around and ran up briskly and ended with a net gain of 3 points. Other prominent climbers in cluded US Steel, Bethlehem, Youngstown Sheet, Anaconda, Kennecott, Phelps Dodge, East man Kodak, Boeing, Douglas Air craft, Dow Chemical, Westing house, Texas Co., and J. I. Case. . General Motors was under wa ter, along with Montgomery Ward and Patino Mines. Rubbers and utilities were narrow. Meeting Dates DALLAS Guernsey cattle breeders organized a new Polk county guernsey club at a meet ing held last week at which C. A. Smith, field representative lor the American guernsey cattle club and Chas. A. Wing, president of the Oregon state guernsey breed er's association were present. The meeting included showing of pictures from Guernsey island. Smith explained some of the new activities, of the club and told about the interest being shown in the breed in this state and the number of clubs already organiz ed. Those present were very much in favor of organizing a club for Polk county breeders alone rather than ioinine with some other county in a joint club and decided to hold an election. Chosen were Forrest Martin, Dallas, president; Alfretl Schroe der, Dallas, vice president; and Clarence Primus, Independence, secretary. Other directors were J. A. Campbell and George McCul lough, Amity. Tentative plans were made for holding the next meeting January 5 and holding regular meetings on the first Monday of each month thereafter. W. C. Leth, Polk county agent, assisted in arranging for the meeting and offered his assistance to the newly organized club, Stocks and Bonds December 11 Compiled by The Associated Press STOCK AVXBACES 30 If D CO Indus Ralls UU1 Stks Net Chang AJ A5 Thursday 545 11.7 Previous day 53.7 13 4 Month ago t 13J Year ago 635 16.1 1941 high . 63J It 1S41 tow li t 13.4 BOND AVE&AGKS ja u Bails' Indus AJ AJ 26.7 37.1 265 36.6 29J 395 34 8 445 355 4J 265 36.6 16 Cttl Id frgn Net change Thursday a a 5J Previous day S4 Month ago 62 0 Year ago - 60.7 1841 high 6J 1941 low 585 A J Unch D1.7 1035 HJ 425 1035 Mj 435 105.1 102.0 47.1 1055 1005 385 105.4 1C25 81.4 1035 MJ 38 0 Additional Market News On Page 20 W Irv w r ..-4. . mm Th monty 70a nd is araQabU to 70a hrt and now. Ruth Farmer, Oak Grove, re ceived for the third time the cup awarded to the girl most out standing in sewing club work. This third winning gives her per manent possession of this trophy. Another cup went into per manent possession, this one be ing for dairy club work, which was awarded to Lyle Knower for the third time. This makes the second cup Lyle has won. However, it will be his last in this competition due to the fact that the age limit will prevent him from making further such winnings in the county. .
