A traffic-panicked deer leaped through the entry and into the midst of the, conference. Vellella swung a shovel, 'the customer ducked. The animal knocked over furniture, raced to the rear of the shop, and plunged through a rear win; low. Later captured, the animal, a doe, was trundled off to a state game farm. CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-0P)-Lawrence Galloway Thompson has gone to work in a foundry. But that's just part of the story. Not so long ago, Thompson was paroled from Atlanta federal penitentiary where he served time for sending a threatening letter to a Jackson, Miss., attorney. Sunday night he appeared at county jail. He said he could not live up to terms of his parole since he could not find work. He afked that he be returned to pri son. County Detective C. H. Demp sey heard the man's story. He found him a job. DES MOINES, Ia.-(P)-Search-ers combed the wreckage of an airplane for half an hour the other day before finding the sev ered nose of Henry Clergy, 44, of Des Moines, and rushing it to a hospital where it was sewed back In place. His physician said it was im possible to determine whether the operation was a "complete success." PHILADELPHIA -()- Jerry, a four-year-old bull terrier, has deserted the army. The dog went along as mascot when his master, Russell Lee, was assigned a year ago to an army unit at Aberdeen, Mr. 75 miles from Philadelphia. Lee later was transferred to Omaha, Neb., but left the dog at Aberdeen. Jerry was back at the Lee home here now. ALBANY, NY. -()- To keep a personal guard against burglary of his music store, Frederic Tietz rigged up a burglar alarm and outfitted a studio for himself above his shop. r v The other night the alarm sounded but Tietz, half asleep, thought it was his doorbell. Then Tietz found the burglars were gone and so were two $250 violins and two clarinets. Getr SEATTLE-(ff)-Charles lost his billfold. He advertised for it, then went duck hunting. While he was away the finder telephoned, left his name and ad dress with Geers father. On his return, without any ducks, his father gave him a slip of paper with the name and ad dress. Now Geer has lost the slip. He's advertising again. BLOOMINQTON, Ill.-(yP)-Pass-ing trains are music to Joe James, who sits in his house by the Illi nois Central tracks and dreams of the days when he was an active railroad man. His ears detected something wrong the other night and he reached for the telephone before the echoes of a train had died away. The section foreman replaced a broken rail and commended! Ford, a ; bishop in South China, wrote! home that pirates who captured : him recently ran their ship on beans when the coal gave out. "They had one day's supply of fuel," the bishop wrote, "when they found in the cargo bales of beans and mixed them with the slender pile of coal. For four days we managed to avoid the trade lanes. Then the pirates reached their port and abandoned us."
