Homecoming Weehemd Activities Start Toni ght at- FrosK Bonfire and Rally Slated Before Dance; Saturday Events Include Banqu t, Football Game MONMOUTH Homecoming weekend at Oregon College ef Education starts tonight with a frosh bonfire. A rally and v terpentine will lead the crowd to Campbell hall auditorium , where Al Neet Fall Creek, will be master of ceremonies. A dance at recreation hall will end events until Saturday morning. Scheduled for Saturday are a breakfast at 8:30 for Theta Delta Phi, men's honorary, in the training school social rooms. From 9 until 11 am. will be registra tion for, the alumni in the admin istration building. Two luncheon groups will meet at noon, former Jessica Todd hall women students and West House men. The big, event of the afternoon is iLfootball game between Reed college and OCE at 2 o'clock. At 9 pjn. all students and alumni : will enjoy a dance in the physical education building. Dick Allen's orchestra from Oregon State col lege will play. Earlier in the night. Crimson O dramatic club, old and new members, will ban quet at Monmouth hotel. Two Sunday morning break fasts are scheduled at 9 o'clock: Staff and Key and Collecto co 'eds, women's service clubs. Co-chairmen for the weekend sre Alma Jean' Watkins, Rock Creek, and Barbara Ruef, Inde pendence. There are only two or three more flocks of the kind in the valley. The pullets are lay ing. , Mr. and Mrs. David Turnidge left Tuesday for a trip to Tacoma and Seattle. Word has been received here of lie death from a heart attack of Harlan Belknap, a brother of Gil bert Belknap. He and his family were residents of this community. Funeral services were held Sun day afternoon at Alpine. New Heads Group Initiates Three New Members; Salem Lodge to Be Guests SILVERTON High school class elections will be held today. A pep assembly is scheduled for this morning to precede the game With Estacada in the afternoon. At a, meeting 1 of the student council the group: voted to contri bute $5 toward -the expenses of Amos Funrue, who goes to Kansas City as an outstanding state Fu ture Farmers of America. Funrue, who is now a student at Oregon State college, was graduated from Sflverton high last June. Richard Barss attended the jun ior high school, principals' con vention at Salem and today and Saturday Harold Davis and H. W. Adams are attending the senior high school convention. Tryouts for a sophomore-junior play will be held soon. Jack Med calf, art teacher, will direct as Guy DeLay, who has coached plays for a number of years at the high school, is assistant foot ball coach. SILVERTON Three new members were initiated and hon ored at the Royal Neighbor meet ing Tuesday. These were Mama Muessig, Mildred Scott and Mary Lue Schaffer. A special banquet table had been arranged for the honor guests, who included Mrs I. D. Thomas, who was observing her 53rd wedding anniversary. A health club, Central Howell Huskies, has been organized with Leroy BeaL president; Richard Nelson, vice-president; Phyllis Steffen, secretary. Officers of the art club are: Daniel Scharer, president; Philip Simmons, vice-president; Joseph ine Henry, secretary. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A Roth were Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Simmons, Clarence jr., and Philip; Mrs. Erland West and son, Jerry of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nelson, Portland. A number of last year's high school graduates are attending schools elsewhere this year. Rita ham, Bessie Porter, Thirty-nine were In attendance. Plans were made for the No vember 18 meeting, when the Sa lem lodge will be guests here. In a recent contest between the two, Salem won honors and it falls to Silverton to entertain. To make arrangements are Bessie -Porter, Ida Mae Davis and Irene Geroux. Steffen is at a Portland business college; Ruth DeSart is at a comp tometer school; Roy Herr is farming; Ruth Hildebrand and Bob Simmons are going to Wil lamette university; Frances King is employed in Silverton. Farmers are enjoying the good weather in getting in their fall crops. Some corn is being picked but much of it is still not ready. , Donald Kuenzi, president of the Community club, has announced that the first meeting will be No vember 14. Mrs. W. C. Rutschman who with Rutschman went to Kansas to visit some 4ime ago is staying there for medical attention. Rutschman returned home. Visit Sick Woman SUVER Mrs. B. R. Douglas and Margaret, visited Mrs. Beulah Phelps at the Ball clinic in Cor vallis. Mrs. Phelps who under went a major operation, is recovering. Parley Plans . Plana have been completed for the Sunday afternoon state . meeting of . the Lutheran Daughters of Reforma tion to convene at Trinity church. The program will begin at 2 o'clock with Evelyn Torvend, pre sident, presiding. Eunice Torvend will be in charge of the opening ceremonies. Bernice Tolefsrud will give the welcome, to which Mrs. ,H. Rogen, Women's Mis sionary federation president, and Mrs. Ralph Bodding, Portland, District LDR president, will re spond. The Portland chapter will give a centennial skit and music will be furnished by various chapters in the state. The principal speaker will be Arna Njaa, national secretary, Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Specht will be hosts at open house at a fare well party for their son, Lyle, to night Young Specht, who was graduated from Oregon State col lege last June .has received an appointment to the officers train ing camp at Quantico, Va., and will leave for his nine-month stay there Saturday. Specht is spending this week in California visiting his brothers, Raymond who is with Douglas aircraft at Englewood, and Oscar, who is with the Bakersfield air corps. While -attending school there she met Schallenbarger, Fol lowing their marriage they have made their home in Monmouth. The Women's Missionary soci ety met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Sidney Van Dyke. Arrange ments were made to carry on Red Cross work during the next few weeks. A group of young people from Cascade college, near Portland, will have charge of church serv ices at Pedee Sunday. A basket lunch will be served in the base ment at noon. Afternoon and evening services will also be in charge of the Cascade group.
