One recipe combines the - Quinces with apple. QUINCB AND APPLE JdAR&IALADE Wash Quinces and remove blossom end. Cut fruit Into small pieces. Place In just 'enough water to cover, cook until oft Press through a sieve and combine with an equal measure 0f tart apple pulp. .Add as much sugar as pulp. Cook mlx- ture until thick and clear (about u minutes). Pack Into clean Jars and seal Immediately. Quince honey uses the straight fruit QUINCE HONEY i cups sugar. cup water f 4 large quinces. . Boil sugar and water to a thick syrup. Add pared, cored, grated Quinces and cook for about 15 minutes carefully so as not to burn. When consistency , of . strained honey, remove and seal.; HARLEQUIN JELLY-JAM ?0 apples 10 quinces 1 quart cranberries. Code fruit separately, rnash ' ftog well. Press through a sieve. . FORT LEWIS, Sept Vb-VPr- Enlisted men of the Ninth Army corps are unlimbering their mus cles for a series of athletic tour naments in golf, volleyball, touch football, horseshoe - pitching, bowling and table tennis. The tournaments will determ ine the corps champions In these sports. Several service teams have been organized to compete in Pacific Northwest football league. Troops that are attached to the Ninth Army corps but are not a part of the divisions have been grouped into three provisional battalions and will compete for battalion championships. Battalion winners will be de termined by October 28, and will Mrs. C. O. Brown, FuUerton, Calif., who 'had been visiting the then compete for the Ninth Army Burneson's, accompanied them here for a visit with their broth er-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson.
