May 3, 1941 ' Willamette Hopes for Sunshine During May Day Ceremonies Crowning of Queen Barbara May Be Held in Gymnasium Should Rain Continue; 1 Banquet Slated at Marion Tonight - Unless "the sun shines bright again" this morning, May day at Willamette university is to be in the gymnasium. Although rain canceled some of Friday's events, students still hope the grass will dry before this afternoon. Coronation ceremonies be gin here at 2 o'clock. Queen Barbara will receive the crown from Betty Starr, queen in 1940, as she mounts the color ful, flowery platform. Entertain ment for the queen "and the audi ence to follow, consists of varied musical numbers, winding of the Maypole and pageantry. A mati nee dance in the gym concludes the afternoon. Today begins at 8 o'clock with the annual May breakfast served in Chresto cottage until 10 o'clock by the campus YWCA Blue Key honorary is to register visitors at the library. . Freshmen and sophomores vie In a tug-of-war over the mill stream at 11 o'clock. A base ball game with University of Portland ; and tennis matches yth Multnomah Athletic club 'have been scheduled for the aft-' ernoon at 2:30. Music Week Plans Made WOODBURN The committee for Music week, headed by Mrs. Hal Chapman,: has arranged a program for the week beginning Sunday. Other members are Mrs. J. Melvin; Ringo, Mrs. R- R. On Thursday afternoon at the Woodburn ; gymnasium the North Marion County Music Festival I will be held under the direction I of Kenneth Thompson of the mu - sic department of the Woodburn high school. All north Marion county schools have been invited and 20 will Dartidnate in the nro-1 gram. The meeting will open at two o'clock with general singing. The four upper grades-will sing in unison and then the four lower grades will sing. This will be fol lowed by two-part singing. Spe cial numbers will be furnished by Washington junior high band and the tenette band, Aurora. A har monica band and vocal and in- strumental solos will be includ ed in the program. Friday at eight o'clock a com munity program will be held at the high school auditorium. All churches and civic organizations will have a part in the program. Holland was born in Nebraska November 28, 1892. He married Mabel Perego In 1918 at Alton, Mo. ' They observed their 25th wedding anniversary last week. Surviving are Mrs. Holland; two children, Mrs. Guy Forbes, Chemult and Miss Helen Holland, Dallas; - his father, Charles Hol- land. Crawf ordsville and three sisters. They will spend a few days at the home of their daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. Jess Fox, Midvale, Idaho. They plan to visit relatives in Minnesota and Iowa. It has been 35 years since Mr. Bassett left the east and Mrs. Bassett visited relatives there bout. 15 years ago. They will be gone for about two months. Miss Wave Lyons has returned to Portland where she will com plete her course in beauty school.
