Snell Urges Being Alert At Wheel Failure of drivers to look to the left when approaching Intersec tions has been a frequent aause of accidents in this state, Earl Snell, secretary of state, warned today In urging motorists to observe this safe driving practice as a precau tion against accidents. - - "Drivers planning to torn right at Intersections, all too frequently Deflect ta look to the left and as result, mar he. involved In an accident with a car the driver of which also was not n the alert," Snell pointed . but, "Even though you have the right of way. It Is your respon-. stbUity to make sure the way Is clear before proceeding into the Intersection. Almost half the traffic accidents reported in Oregon last year oc curred at intersections and 22 per cent of the fatal accidents .were at intersections. In this connection, Snell also pointed out that IS per cent of the drivers involved In accidents did not have the right of way, indicating the need for greater care at intersections. Upon approaching intersections. drivers should look both ways, give proper signals for any ma neuver ana be sure tne way is clear before proceeding. This pro cedure requires of necessity that the driver keep his speed down to a safe rate, the secretary of state declared. - ' Fox! Valloy.
