Manager Jimmy Wilson, who says "any guy who can throw hard has a chance to pitch,' has high hopes for Phil. His protere even now is only 24 years old although he's starting his eighth season with the Chi cago Cubs. Bottle for Blood, While the first two clashes be tween Willamette and the Sena tors were more or less lacka daisical exhibition affairs, you can bet that tonight's rubber game will be for blood . . . The Senators won the first, 3 to 2, with a Solon bat tery working part of the game for the collegians, but Willamette came back last Monday to even the count, at exactly 3 to 2, with its own lineup functioning all the way and with big Bill Haunauska handcuffing the Solons. The game will give fans an op portunity for a looksee at a fine Willamette team as well as an opportunity for a preview of the Senators they'll see in league ac tion no later than next Thursday night, weather permitting ... As the collegians play all other games in the afternoon, this particular clash gives opportunity to those who can't leave jobs to go out and see daylight performances. If Cline's Coffee Shop bowlers stay in eighth place la the American Bowling congress tournament until Its conclusion two weeks hence, it will be worth something; over $600 to them . . . They're almost a cinch to stay In the first 20, which will be worth about 3300 or $60 per man . . . Not so bad, eh? Here's Rook Receiver. To Jack Carl Warren, rookie catcher fresh out of prep school, goes Senator sketch number three of this corner's series designed to acquaint fans -with Skipper Bunny Griffiths' crew. Warren is 19, stands S-fooUll, weighs 175, has a good appetite, b Sinrle and Mdmiim h'm - i It. He played four years of base-1 ball for Benson Tech ot Portland, from which he was graduated a year ago. He played semipro ball in the Portland league in 1939 and for Jack and Jill in the State league last season. He hit a mis erable .538 in the State circuit. Jack Carl both throws and bats right and does a good job of both. He has a nice arm for the second base peg and has 'good power with the stick. As an understudy to Eddie Adams, he's likely to be a favor ite with Salem fans. Hobbies? He likes to- fish and hunt when not playing baseball. Bowling Scores INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE Hartmaa Bros.
