Parties Benefit For Band, I The first in a series of kidnap breakfast card parties was held on Tuesday morning at the coun try home of Mrs. Ted Gordon. The card parties are for the purpose of raising funds for the Salem high school band uniforms, and are being given by band mothers. Leslie Men Have Business Meet Members of the Leslie Metho dist Laymen's association met at the home of the club president, Harold Dourts, Tuesday night. - The paper drive being spon sored by the club to raise money for the boy's program at the church was discussed and all per sons having paper to contribute are asked to call the paper drive chairman, George Warman at the YMCA, and a boy scout will call for the paper. Club members will meet at Les lie Methodist church on Saturday afternoon to assist Clark Will, in charge of landscaping the church grounds. A proposal for an out door fireplace and croquet ground was considered, with Warren Ber telson in charge of the grounds committee. Next meeting of the club will be held at Leslie Methodist church on March 4, at 7:30 pjn. Mrs. Ray Cates will be hostess at her home at 1660 Roosevelt street to members of the Ann Jud son circle of the First Baptist church. On Monday night at the Marion hotel, the Red Cross nurses of dis trict No. 3, Oregon State Nurses association, held their second an nual dinner meeting with Revi R. A. Hutchinson as speaker. His to pic was "Nurses and National De fense." The local Red Cross nurse com mittee was in charge of arrange ments. Miss Bernice Lee, chair man of the committee, presided. Decorations were red, white and blue candles, flowers and flags. Special guests were Miss Lucile Higby of Portland, state secretary of the committee on Red Cross nursing service, who spoke about the increased- need for army nurses and Miss Ethel Tempi in of Portland, the executive secretary of the Oregon Board of Nurse Examiners, who spoke about the problem of staffing the general hospitals while the Red Cross Reserve Nurses are enrolled in army service. Add flour land mix well; then dates. nuts land vanilla. Bake in two greased pans, 8x8x2-inches, in moderate oven (350 degrees F.) 35 minutes. Cut in squares before removing from pan.
